We are going on 4 night Dream to Bahamas that leaves on Monday, Feb 29. We just told DD 6 yrs old tonight that we are leaving this weekend. She was so excited! It was a total surprise to her. However, she started running a low grade fever tonight. Many of the kids in her first grade class have been getting sick this month. I'm planning to see how she is tomorrow morning. We bought the Disney insurance. Has anyone had to cancel last minute? Any personal experience? I will also call DCL tomorrow for policy.

Keep your fingers crossed that DD is better tomorrow!

Sorry to hear your news. I do know that, if you cancel for medical reasons, you do need a doctor's statement to submit with the insurance claim, to say that your child should not cruise.

I would imagine if you showed up saying your child had a fever they would be hesitant to let you board anyway. People who get sick can be quarantined in their rooms during the cruise. Hope Disney will let you reschedule if your child is sick. Sorry this has happened.

Hope your little one gets better! You do fill out a health questionare when you check-in that asks if anyone in your party has had things like a fever with coughing, runny nose, etc in the last 24 hours (may be 48 but I want to say 24). I'm not sure what happens if you say yes to any of those. Someone else on here might know. My guess is they probably check their temp and such.

I can tell you on our cruise in late January there were plenty of kids in the check-in line and onboard hacking up a lung so my guess is either the parents checked no or someone cleared them to board. (Obviously they are concerned about anyone contagious getting on because things spread so quickly in confined spaces.)

I hope she is feeling better in the morning. I'm worried about exactly the same situation for our sailing next week! I wish I could keep the kids home this week to avoid contamination!

If it is something like strep, they may clear her to board if she is being treated with antibiotics. Just an idea!

We once cancelled last minute because my DS was sick and his doctor advised that he not go. As PP noted, if you cancel, get a doctor's note to submit with your insurance claim. We were reimbursed in full for all non-refundable fees.

Last summer we did a B2B on the Magic and my DS got sick, with a fever, while we were on the first cruise. When we checked in for the second cruise, I marked the box on the health form that indicated my son had had a fever within the last three days. They have medical personnel at check in to assess when this situation arises. My son was fine by then, but the gentleman looked at him (it wasn't an exam, just probably looking for signs of illness) and cleared him for boarding.

See what the doctor says, but if your daughter is feverish, I would definitely consider canceling. My son was in bed for two days on the cruise and it's not fun. If your doctor writes a note, insurance will reimburse and there are plenty of future cruises available!

Thank you everyone! DD woke up great and excited for our cruise. No fever! Yay! I think the mild fever (99.6) last night was because of her 6 yr molar coming through and maybe lack of sleep from the previous night. She hasn't gotten sick in over a year, so I got a little worried last night. I'm so relieved it was nothing and she can enjoy this amazing vacation!

Just to clarify they only ask about fever, vomiting or diarrhea. They don't ask about coughing or runny nose.

OP, glad your dd is feeling well. Have a great cruise!!

Sorry, my bad.
We haven't cruised since Easter but I can only recall the standard, old form.

OH gosh I don't even consider that a fever!

Teeth will do it to you. DS had a charming 3 nights of 104 (mercury thermometer*, under the arm) temperatures, with absolutely ZERO problems during the day (we didn't drug him for the fever b/c I wanted to know how he was doing, and I believe that fevers do good work) when we were visiting my blissfully *childfree brother and sis in law. At the end of it? All FOUR canines popped through on one day. Poor kid! (poor me) (DH slept through it all, the stinker, even as I ran multiple tepid baths for us through the nights when DS became too uncomfortable)

I giggle when behind-the-times or tone-deaf (to what their patients tell them) health care practitioners say that teething doesn't cause a fever. DS has one molar left to lose, and I know he'll get one the day or so before he loses it.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, my husband got the stomach bug last night so it's just me and my daughter on this trip now. Girls trip!! We board Dream tomorrow.

Unfortunately, my wife and i had to cancel a late January cruise this year, about 5 days before embarkation for health reasons. Fortunately we purchased the VPP with DCL, Aon Travel Insurance. We filled out the paperwork and attached the necessary documentation from the doctor. We just received notification that the cost of the cruise ( x- the insurance charge ) will be refunded back to us. The process takes some effort and time, but it is worth purchasing the VPP incase you need to cancel at the last minute.

Current insurance done thru DCL includes a cancel for any reason clause, however only covers 75% of it and can only be used towards a future cruise within 12 months. But insurance has do deny the claim.

Note that VPP does not cover pre existing conditions, AFAIK.

DD appears to have a grass or tree allergies because every time we get to Florida and off the plane she started coughing up a lung!

Once ship is out to sea, no more cough!

Get back to port and same thing happens again.

So not every child is spewing diseases!

Hope is doesn't effect our 9 days in the world in a couple weeks. It doesn't bother her to much, but after a while she does get a sore throat.

She hate taken meds and would rather suffer while we miss sleep.(so tired) lol
