I have my check up tomorrow and I know my current aids are not working as they should. They are about 10 years old, which is REALLY good, but I need to replace them. Last year my dr was telling me about the newer behind the ear ones (mine are in the canal ones now). My hearing loss is such that the in the canal ones are no longer strong enough for me so I need to move to a more powerful type.

I have been researching new aids and the claims that they cancel out noise better, etc. sound great but are they really that much better? I am also SO TIRED of feedback and the new ones claim no feedback issues.

Has anyone purchased new aids in the last year or two and what is your experience?

I bought one in 2008. It does do a better job canceling out noise than the one I bought 5 years ago!
I usually only get feedback when I touch the hearing aid, such as hitting it when I mess with my hair or glasses.

My Mother just last Nov got hearing aids for the first time. They are tiny behind the ears type with a little tube that goes in the ear. You would never know she has them if you don't look hard.

I don't know about other states, but Michigan has a program through the ADA that helps working people get their hearing aids. They will pay for them, since deafness is considered a handicap. They paid over $3000.00 for my Mothers hearing aids. You might want to check on this.

Thank you. I will look into this.

I ordered Starkey IQ9's, I should have them on Wednesday. Thanks for the help.
