We are going to Orlando again in August/September 2010. Originally we were going to stay at the GF but with the current climate we are going to change to the Contemporary as it is quite a huge saving for just being "across the lake".

Has anybody booked the Contemporary with Virgin? It isn't in the brochure but it is on the website and a few months ago when I was playing about to try and estimate some costs for our saving plan it was offering me the Contemporary to book. Now though whatever dates I put in for 2010 the Contemporary isn't showing. There is of course the chance that it is booked but it seems odd that there would be full when all the others have vacancies.

Any help would be appreicated. I would prefer to go with Virgin if I can as I will get the 10% FV discount.

I'd book a flydrive only with VH and then book the Contemporary direct with Disney. There have been some incredible deals for late August/September - and it's likely that free dining will be repeated in 2010 as well, and that always runs during your visit time frame. OR you could rent DVC points and enjoy a Magic Kingdom view villa at Bay Lake Tower for - quite probably - much cheaper than a regular room at The Contemporary booked through VH.

That's very helpful thank you. How do I find out about renting DVC points?

Do you know if the free dining offer is bookable through Disney the same time as through Virgin i.e. about August - October?

I would guess Virgin only had a few rooms to sell and all gone now, I doubt its their best selling resort. Their Popular sellers are still there Pop, POR & AKL, I think they will have a lot more rooms at these resorts.

Personally I wouldn't do Flydrive, I think its an expensive option compared to flight only. But it depends how flexible you are, are you willing to go indirect?
I would wait for free dining(probably available mid August), see what they offer.
Doing DIY (flights Expedia, OKW with free DDP & Tix Disney.co.uk, car USrentacar, cruise Dreamsunlimited) saved me about 50% on a Tour ops price.

Just priced up 3 weeks at AKL for us next August(2 ad + 1 teen) £6060.00:scared1: Their prices are a joke, it even includes a 10% discount.

For this August without trying, 1st prices I come across
3 weeks AKL Disney.co.uk £2,877.00
3 Virgin flights £2,173.20

I know its another year on but over £1,000 more, go indirect you could knock upto another £1,000 off

you should read my pre trip report. ;)
Virgin havent had the Contemporary in their brochures for the past few years,we phoned them and phoned and they still werent planning on doing it.
Then as we went to book, they had it on thier system though not in the brochure. This was 30th April 2008. ;)
i think they put in online a few months after :)

weve booked for this May :cloud9:

packages and fly drives can workout cheaper using Virgin but usualy only at peak times like Xmas and Easter, and you have to book very early to get these best prices. (Also cheap the day the go up for sale). But these prices have probably now gone, so if you want that resort, it will probably be better to book DIY.
