We were thinking of going biking at CC. My husband loves to bike. I am not much of a biker, but I assume the land is fairly flat.

Has anyone done this? What is it like? Is it a nice ride? Is there water available along the way?

Thanks!
DJ

We did the CC package that included the bicycle. The bicycle is just a basic bicycle. Disney provides helmets which are required for the children and optional for the adults.
The bike path is about a mile and a half long . Our family enjoyed the bike ride. Just good old basic fun.:earsboy: :earsgirl: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

P.S. We had our water bottle in our fanny pack.

They do have bikes with training wheels. We did the ride and it was very hot. We were tired when we got back.

We decided to bike at around 3pm with no reservation. It was a nice ride, very flat and scenic in places. Periodically, there was water along the ride (very cold). We were very hot that part of the day. I recommend it if you have some energy left.:bounce:

we did the package on CC last time that included a beach mat float, snorkeling gear and a bike. you could pick up the bikes anytime. we rode along the airport runway and then as far down the road as you go, past the adult beach. there were water kegs and cups along the way. we stopped and parked our bikes on the way back and took a quick dip down at the adult beach. then we stopped at the food place which is not the main one; we noticed they had grilled steaks there which cookies bbq did not. it was nice; i hope to do the bikes again. barb

Hi DJ,

Everyone has given great descriptions of the riding. I have to tell you that, though we are glad we did it once, it wasn't what we expected.

My sister and I are avid bikers (not fanatics - we avg about 12 mph and go out for 1 1/2 to 4 hour rides), but we were hoping that they would have trails that circle the island, and give us a good workout. The trail does parallel the beach, and there are great views in some spots, but I would be surprised if the ride is much more than a mile, and it's not a circular trail./

I guess our expectations were just a little too high on this one.:p

I would just love it if the trail went around the entire island. I guess Disney might be worried about people wandering off the path and creating a little "Magic" or getting into trouble. Still, for the average bike rider, it's a nice path with lots of scenery and water breaks. The problem with it is that once you go to the end, you just back track on the same path back. Nothing new to explore. I wish the trail went a bit further, if not around the entire island, too.

the bike ride is as people have described it...
however, it was the best part of our visit to CC....
we don't lie out in the sun ever (we live in a tropical climate, 10 minutes from the beach and i haven't been there in 6 years, ever since the kids stopped wanting to go build sand castles)....
so if you're not interested in lying in the sun there isn't all that much to do on CC......so perhaps that's why we loved the bike ride...
we wished the path was longer.....but it was so nice and peaceful.....almost no one else was on it (it was HOT out....)

as i said, it was the highlight of our visit to CC....

I think how much you'll enjoy biking on Castaway Cay will depend a lot on the weather. The day we were there (in July) it was brutally hot--a perfect day to relax in the water, but only 3 of the 13 of us used the "bike" portion of our snorkel/float/bike package. Those who did (two 13-year-olds and one brave dad) had fun, but came back very tired and sweaty!

we were there on july 6th and it was also brutally hot....but as i said, we loved the bike ride...especially the part past serenity bay (as i recall it was shady on that portion of the ride)......
we also had the snorkel/float/bike package....but we didn't bother with the float...
we didn't like the water there very much (if i'm going to get all salty i want there to be waves to play in (as we have where we live)...there weren't any at CC so no point in going into the water (for us that is)...

i only wish it had been a longer path....but since no one else was on it, it was so peaceful.....2,700 cruisers on the island, most of them squished onto the family beach and here we were all by ourselves on this path.....kind of heavenly actually.....

If you are really into biking, you will probably be slightly disappointed by CC. Yes, it is fun, but the path is over before you know it. I would do it again if I was bored, but you might be better off snorkling in the water at the Adult Beach and trying to find the man made coral formations where all the fish flock too.

next time we're on CC this is what we'll do......
sleep late....eat breakfast in tritons.....get off the ship and get our pictures taken at all the picture spots.....
rent bikes and take a liesurely bike ride to the end of the trail and back (hoperfully it will be longer next time)....
return the bikes.....get on the tram to go back to serenity bay to eat lunch....
get massages in the cabanas at serenity bay....
take the tram back to the family beach to do some shopping...
then get back on the ship (probably around 2:30 or so....)...

as you see, no swimming at all......and certainly no sunbathing....

anyway.....CC was nice, but the boat's a lot nicer...
i think that CC was probably a let down for me because everyone who talks about it says it's the best part of their cruise....it wasn't....for me the best part of the cruise was the ship itself....i could have had only days at sea and it would have been wonderful....
