I haven't been to this park since way back when it was Riverside and had, I think, just two roller coasters! I know that a lot has changed. Is it a good place to take the family? I know it's not Disney, but is it clean?

I am planning on attending a rubber stamp convention out in Springfield in June and thought we might stay over night and do that and then head over to Six Flags. (And maybe find the Dr. Seuss thing too) We live on the other side of the state - almost in RI - so it would be great to do more than one things at a time.

My kids are 4 & 8. I have NO interest in riding any of the wild rides, but I would sure love to see them! The kids have been to WDW many times, and actually, if things pan out, we may be going back to the world the week after that.

Just looking for opinions on the park..

TIA!

Jill

i got a family 4pack of season tickets for 6 Flags NE last year and enjoyed every minute we spent there. These tickets also are good at all 6 Flags parks nationwide.
the park is well run, neat, and clean and there is plenty to do to keep everyone happy for a solid day of fun.
you can also get a season parking ticket for $30.00, the park SP is 54.99/ea when bought as a 4 pack. They would pay for themselves in 3 trips. For good family fun close to home they can't be beat.

It's definitely NOT Disney World, but.....

I was VERY pleasantly surprised when we took the kids to Six Flags New England last Labor Day weekend! Very cute place, very clean, too. Lots of families. We didn't use the water park there but it looked like a lot of fun. Prices weren't cheap, but not any more than WDW prices, for food and souvenirs.

Only part that was below par was their "characters" ATTEMPTING to dance to a Six Flags theme song! I actually felt embarrassed for the people inside the character suits because all they had to do were a few simple dance steps and moves, but they couldn't all keep in beat together! LOL Bugs, Daffy, and I forget who else...I think there were 4 or 5 of them. But the little kids there seemed to enjoy it and were oblivious to the really poor dancing aspect of it. :p

There were some cute family-type rides, such as antique cars that go along a path but you actually do have to steer or you'll be all over the road (a metal rail keeps the cars from going totally off the road though). I remember a huge wooden and net climbing/play area for the smaller kids too.

I'm rather picky, but I do recommend this park and would take my DSs back again :)

I've never been, but I heard that their version of Superman: Ride of Steel is the best in the US.

I haven't been since it was Riverside The Great Escape but from all accounts that I hear it is a fun little amusement park.

I'm partial to this park- I went to Riverside a lot when I was little and when I was at Umass, we'd go every spring. I had a season pass one summer, and I certianly got my money's worth . It's definately not Disney, but a lot of fun just the same.

With so many Mass threads popping up- I'm getting homesick! Just have to wait till May, going to WDW, then home to Mass! No offense to Indiana, but I want to go to the beach!!

OMG!!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: I went on this ride last September with my DS and I was clinging to him for DEAR LIFE!!!!! Now, I LOVE roller coasters, but this particular one makes you feel as if you are LITERALLY FLYING!!!! I SERIOUSLY felt like I was falling out of the seat during 98% of the ride!!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: There is NO centrifugal force holding you nicely back in your seat, such as on RockinRollercoaster! Quite the opposite, you do indeed feel like "Superman", I thought I was FLYING....right to my death, as I felt like I was going to be falling out of the seat and plunging to my death during the entire ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL Easy for me to laugh now.... :p But this has a tiny lap bar, and no other restraints!!!!!

I spent a very long day there last August. I had to wait until we got home and the kids were in bed before I would complain to my husband about this place because the kids had a great time, and to me, that meant everything. BUT, I found this place dirty, expensive and limited in appeal. When I used the restroom early in the day, it was fine, but by mid-afternoon and beyond it was disgusting. The food was ultra-expensive and poor quality. The rides were great for the very young or thrill-lovers, nothing else for people not fitting into those categories. It made me fall in love with Disney all over again, as they really reach everyone and provide the magic as well. That said, it may be worth a trip if you are in the area and could be a nice day for your kids. For me, I hope I never have to go back to Six Flags and dream of Disney all the more...

We've been to Six Flags New England about once each summer for the past few years.

I consistantly complain about the conditions of the bathrooms by mid-afternoon also. THEY ARE AWEFUL!!! OMG!!!

The lines get bad on Sat & Sun -- of course. Oh, they attract a certain cliental that just thinks they have the RIGHT to cut lines....no matter what you say. Expect it & deal with it.

The waterpark fills to capacity about 1pm.

My tip: do the waterpark 1st thing. Leave about 12 or 1pm & go to amusement park. Go back to water park about 1.5 hrs before it closes -- about 4:30pm. Water closes about 6pm. Then go back to amusement park.

Lockers inside waterpark are EXPENSIVE. Arrange it so you can leave your non-waterpark stuff in the amusement park lockers. Change in the amusement park bathroom instead.

They no longer have picnic tables outside the park like Riverside used to. We (and alot of other families) trek back to the parking lot ...and eat there for lunch. Try to park somewhere near grass or what few trees there are if you plan to do this. It's a BIG paved HOT parking lot however. We do eat supper in the park somewhere later.

Expect to encounter some nice so nice employees ..and some grafitti & some wear & tear (paint) in queve lines.

REMEMBER: It's NOT Disney. (Or else you may be disappointed.)

With all that said: we keep going back. Enjoy your trip.
(If I were going to WDW the following week, honestly.... I would skip Six Flags....and save the money for something more enjoyable at WDW.)
