Has anyone been to Ohana lately?

We ate breakfast there last year. It was bad. The worst part was the service. We had a waitress that was this combo of rude, out-of-it, nervous and slow. The whole experience was a mess. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the dining room itself. It felt old and damp. The chair heights were too low and felt odd. The upholstery looks like something I'd see on Jaqueline Smith's outdoor Kmart furniture line.

However, I'm going back next month for dinner. Giving it another shot since I heard dinner is to die for. If it's not great, I won't go back.

For those of you with service issues what exactly was the problem?

The last trip that we had such bad service, we were just basically ignored. No drink refills, long waits between the different courses, couldn't get refills of what food we did want to eat. Plus our server was borderline rude.

Most of the time, for me anyway, it's just little things that drag it down from being good service to just mediocre service. For example one time we had to wait forever for our check. Another time we just couldn't seem to get drink refills, we were able to get food refills but he/she just kept forgetting to fill our Cokes back up. Like I said, nothing major, nothing bad enough to complain about, just not great service.

Only had service issues the second time. The server took our drink orders right away, but then didn't reappear for a while with them. In the meantime, the salads, etc had come out. I sent one of the other "cousins" after the first one to see about our drinks. :upsidedow The server was slow and absent like that the whole night.

Service the first and third times was excellent though - which made up for the second time. :) I think it's the same thing at all restaurants though - sometimes you get good service and sometimes you don't. When it's consistently bad, that's when you stop going. :)

My girlfriend and I ate there a week and a half ago. The food was very good and the chef was very helpful (she has a peanut allergy). But the service was awful. Our waiter kept complaining how he was running around and how tired he was. I ordered a beer that I never got, then they charged me for it. We never got bread. The chef actually cleared off some of our plates (he came back out to ask my girlfriend what she wanted for desert) becasue our waiter was no where to be found.

Was there just a few days ago. The service was the best I ever had but didn't think the food was all that good. Maybe it was just my taste buds. I did like that they gave us less food (only 2 of us) and then would ask if we wanted more. Always hated waisting food.

Was there the night before Mother's Day - party of 10, 5A, 5C and all really enjoyed it. Our server was fantastic - one of the best of the trip. Food came at a perfect pace (plenty of time in between courses) and our server even suggested different food for the kids in our group - all ended up w/ grilled cheese and fries. The hostess at check-in was quite rude for some reason, but after that, we had a great experience. Food was delicious.
Hope you enjoy it as we did.

We were there on Mothers Day for dinner and thought the service was very slow and the waitress seemed distracted and not very happy. There were long waits between the meats being brought out and the shrimp was dry. We were there for over an hour and a half and were not asked if we wanted any more of anything until about an hour after we had started! Usually the wait staff seems very upbeat, but not the night we were there. We felt like we were being ignored most of the time because we were only a party of 2 and there were quite a few large parties that seemed to be getting a lot of attention. This is my favorite restaurant and I was disappointed, but I will probably give it another try!

We were there for dinner about 3 weeks ago, and it was wonderful! The food, the service, everything! It was my favorite meal of the trip! My DD5 wasn't thrilled with the "different" taste of the noodles, broccoli, etc, and the waitress offered to get her something else. She brought her little paper umbrellas for her glass of juice which DD loved, and was just overall very attentive. And the food - I'm still dreaming about those noodles!

My family has been there for breakfast and dinner last year on our vacation.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious. Even the eggs and I generally dont like powdered eggs. The service was good. I didnt feel rushed. The characters all made their rounds and took pictures with each of us. I thought that ws great.
The dinner was another story. I think part of this was my fault though. I made the reservation around the time of Wishes. So we were there a good bit before Wishes. The service before then was great. The food was really good. We ate so much our stomachs hurt. But my kids were ready to go. Maybe 2 minutes into the fireworks. We have never seen them before so we had no idea of how long the show was. The servers were no where to be found. I think they just want to give people the chance to see the show. But we had a full day and they were tired. We waited at least another 30-40 minutes to wait for the waitress and get the check.

I hate that too. When I am out of a drink for more than 3 minutes, I get up and get it myself. I don't care if I have to go into the kitchen to do it. You'd be surprised when you walk behind the waitress station to get your own drink, how much attention you get all of sudden.

And I subtract 5% from the tip each time I have to do it.

Not being able to get the check is another one that kills me. From the time the plates are cleared, I wait 5 minutes then I go to the front of the restaurant and tell the host/hostess at the front that I need my check. You lose 10% on the tip for this one.

Not to go too far off topic, but the only way to correct bad service is to talk with your wallet.

:lmao: Good for you, I may try that!
Love Ohana's BTW...

Our server at 'Ohana in January ranks among the best I have had at a Disney restaurant. She was prompt and attentive, exceeding her required responsibilities. When we mentioned we did not want any pork products because of religious considerations, she sent fresh skewers to our table that were cooked on a different grill away from the pork. This was unnecessary but greatly appreciated, and she earned her tip that night.

It is concerning to read so many negative reports regarding 'Ohana's service. It reflects poorly on the management team, which is responsible for training their wait staff.

We were there in April and the food and service was wonderful! I was so stuffed from all the starters but of course had to eat the bread pudding. We are going back over Thanksgiving. Kids also had a blast! For a party of 9, it was everyone's fav restaurant last trip.

Looks like the service is a draw of luck. The bread pudding, yum. That is the main reason why I am contemplating to go back after 2 bad services. Decison, decision! :headache:

#1 It is okay to undertip a server for poor service. That provides immediate feedback.

#2 If you have special requests regarding service, let the server know upfront BEFORE ordering drinks, this includes "tonight is our anniversary, or today is my daughter's birthday." Many times, wait staff would love to help you celebrate, but the front desk, or host stand never gets the message to them. (Yes, I know they are supposed to...)

#3 Be sure to ask for a manager on the way out to let them know you were disappointed, OR extremely pleased with your server, be sure to use the servers' name and or show your reciept to the manager. This provides feedback to the management team.

The two of us loved the food and the service was pretty good too, back in 2009.

Now if only the ukulele lady could take all the kids outside...wow, that place is loud!

If you have a drink from the bar - slow service doesn't matter. Good thing there is a bar - we can get our own. :)

For us the service was good. We didn't like the food. It's smoked and dried out.
