We are thinking of using points to go to the Hilton at Hilton Head over Spring Break. The Hilton at DD was booked:( . Has anyone been there? We don't plan to golf, just hang at the beach, maybe eat some seafood. Any pros or cons would be great. Thanks.:)

Have been to DVC at Hilton Head many times. Hilton Head is a great place for families. We usually rent bikes for our entire stay & ride all over the island. Are you asking specifically about the Hilton property or just HH in general?

Actually about both. We have never been there, and I would like to know if there will be things to do for our family over Easter. DS is 10, DD is 2, both have ben to the beach before and enjoyed it. Is the water nice? How is the sand? Are there family places to eat? I am trying to figure out if we should go here or some place else? Please tell me everything you can. thanks!

We went to Hilton Head for Easter Break 2 years ago. We Loved it!! The beaches were fantastic!! We were at Palmetto Dunes Plantation. In the afternoon when the tide goes out, around 3:00, people will ride their bikes right on the beach. (The beaches are huge at this time of day) They also rent these kinda like Big wheels and kids can be seen riding them all over the beach.
We also took our bikes with us, they are bike racks in the garages, and went bike riding every morning. The bike trails go all over the island.
We did eat at a couple of family restaurants during our stay.
We had 4 girls with us from age 8-15.
I want to go back here some day, I really liked Hilton Head.

We've been going to HHI for almost 20 years, and just bought a villa there. So I guess I can give you some ideas about places to eat! However, we've always gone to Sea Pines, and the beach varies a great deal between locations. Haven't been to the beach up your direction. I know that the DVC is not on the beach...you either walk a path which goes under the main highway or I think they have transport. HHI is known for wide, sandy beaches. Sand is softer than the Outer Banks, and the overall look of everywhere is much more pleasing. Amount of waves, and the distance you can go out from shore varies greatly from one part of the island to the other.
For food, there's the Crazy Crab (two locations--one in Harbor Town and the other on the northern end of the island). Pretty good for families, heavy on seafood though. I prefer the Harbor Town location for dinner because I love their hush puppies. Kurama is a great Japanese steak house. Sticky Fingers just opened, and is great for ribs. Other rib location is Tony Roma which is also good. Be sure to go to the Salty Dog Cafe in South Beach in Sea Pines. During the day it's mostly outdoor service--a bar kiosk on the decking around the South Beach Marina. In the evening there is outdoor service offering a "cookout" type menu and also indoor service with a nice menu. If you're there during any "high season" they have outdoor entertainment in the evening. Cafe at Wexford is great for lunch, and Tapas is wonderful for dinner for adults and older or more adventursome kids. My kids are older, and have always been fairly adventuresome eaters so we really haven't done much with pizza or stuff. Oh, Hilton Head diner is also a pretty sure bet.
For entertainment there are several mini golf courses--not the putt putt variety, much nicer. Bike trails galore. South Beach is home to Captain Zodiak, which offers dolphin watching via motorized rubber rafts. Much nicer and more personal than the larger dolphin watching cruises. There's parasailing and water craft rental available at South Beach also as well as fishing charters. Be sure to go to Harbor Town to see Greg Russell if he's performing while you're there. Even though they're 17 and 20, my kids still get a kick out of seeing him. Shannon Tanner (?) is at Shelter Cove and I've heard good things about that performance also, but have never gotten there.
Outlet shopping is just off the island--2 malls worth. Character Connection in one of them. Often decent bargains. The two on the island have declined dramatically in the last couple of years.
Obviously we really like the island, or we wouldn't have bitten the bullet and bought a place. With the snow over the last little while I'm really sorry that it came with winter renters in place or I'd have bailed and gone down! Hope this helps, and let me know if I can be of help.

Bumping this for ya :)

We prefer Myrtle Beach over HH. We found HH to be a little dull.

Wow! Thank-you all for the info. Is it usually warm enough to swim at Easter? We will be there April 20-27.

Is it dull because of no night life? Since the kids are with us we do not mind. We will most likely eat dinner and head back to the hotel. Mini golf would be fun. But we won't need any dancing etc.

Would they rent a bike with a baby seat on the back? I think DD would enjoy that very much.

Thanks again for the information, I am feeling better about going. This was not our first choice(Disney was but it was booked when we can go) and we need to use our points before they expire.:)

We love HH. Chrisney gave you lots of information about the Island. We have seen Shannon Tanner and hope to see him our next trip. He involves the kids in his show and it makes it fun for them.

Our boys (2 & 7 last trip) love to catch crabs. If your staying at the Disney HH resort, there is a pier the kids walk down and "crab fish" off of. Our kids have a lot of fun doing this. Last year they caught some shrimp too.

They love the beach. Between that, the pools and bike rides, they could ask for no more. In fact, DH and I are content no more than that. And, I find it's easier to cook than to go out -- not something I ever look forward to doing at home.;)

July will be our 3rd trip there and we plan on spending many more summers there. Have fun!

It may not be warm enough to swim in April.

We take our kids also so we didn't care about the night life either. We just prefer MB. They have Ripley's Aquarium, IMAX theater and a bigger variety of restaurants. :)

Thank-you all. Hilton Honors found us a room so off we will go. Since it is snowing (again) tonight, the beach is sounding REALLY good. Even if we can't swim it will be warmer than here! Will I have to worry about any Spring Break Party Types? I think most college kids are back in class by Easter so hopefully it will just be families or couples. Thanks, You have helped me get excited about going.:)
