I'm taking a group of students (8 high school seniors) there in about 5 weeks. I'm starting to panic just a bit (really, just a bit) as I haven't travelled out of the country in 12+ years, and I've never been to Costa Rica.

A student travel company has made our arrangements for us, so I don't need to worry about that side of the trip/preparations, but there's still a lot to think about!

So, if you've been and have any tips for me, I'd love to hear them. Or if you've travelled with student groups and have any tips, I'm listening!

TIA

Only spent one day in Costa Rica but it was one eventful day.

Bring rain gear. Temps are drastically different depending where you are. It can be 80 degrees on the coast and 50 degrees in the mountains(and raining). If you are going to be traveling inland bring appropriate clothing.

Eat the fruit - some of the best fruit I have ever tasted. They grow so many things in Costa Rica: flowers, pineapple, sugar, coffee, strawberries, watermelons, etc.

I am hoping to go back and spend more time there. Pura Vida

Thanks, Poohbug, for the reply. I hadn't thought about temp changes being so drastic. We'll have to plan for that.

One of my students was just telling me yesterday that she had read about the wonderful fruits that they have - some we've never even heard of.

BTW, where in WI are you? The group I'm taking is from Superior, WI. I live in MN, teach in WI.

I have been to Costa Rica! I'll do my best to recall a few tips.

I believe you are going in Green season while i was there in Dry season.

* Bring insect repellent that contains a high percentage of Deet.
* Water in fine for brushing teeth etc, but drink bottled water and don't get ice cubes in your drinks (unless in a resort that has a water purification system).
* Wear well broken in hiking boots/gym shoes/athletic sandals.

That's all I can think of at the moment!

Have a great time! :wizard:
