Has anyone been to Anna Maria Island?

We are planning on spending a day of trip at the beach and someone mentioned Anna Maria Island. Has anyone made the trip over there and what is your opinion? OR does someone have another suggestion?

We vacation at Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island a lot. It is beautiful there. We love it.

Anna Marie Island is a really nice beach. If you don't mind driving 20miles down further you can go to Siesta Keys. It was voted #2 beach in the nation. We go their often. The sand is pure white and the water is crystal clear.

We did an overnight to Siesta Key 2 weeks ago, I didn't think a day trip would be long enough for us and it wouldn't have been since we like to explore.

Siesta Key was beautiful. Tons of shells, clear blue water and cool white sand. We didn't make it to Anna Maria the day we left to go exploring. Instead we drove in the opposite direction to Sanibel Island. I liked that too, but Siesta Key much better. Kinda makes us wish we spent our whole vacation there.

I really like both areas mentioned, but if you are talking about a day trip from Orlando, I'd consider both a little too far for my taste. From Orlando, I'd go straight west to Clearwater Beach, which isn't a bad drive if you don't hit rush hour in Tampa. About 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Siesta Key is my vote! I live here on Siesta Key and it is beautiful! You won't be sorry!

Thanks for all the help. We are thinking of going our last full day which is a Sunday. Actually we want to take in a late morning church service and then spend the afternoon at the beach. We will see how tired we are and play it by ear. Thanks again for the responses.
