I've been to 7 mile beach. The last time was last November and Ivan really did terrible things to the island, though I am hopeful they are recovering. It really depends on what you term beautiful. I think the beaches on St. John are beautiful. White sand, tranquil calm tourquise waters, beautiful folliage just behind the beach, etc. The beaches on Grand Cayman have white sand and nice waters, but other than a few resort placed trees (most of which were lost in Ivan) is barren. Grand Cayman is a more desert-like island and there isn't the pretty folliage on the outskirts of the beach. The beach is VERY nice though and I definately think they are nice, just not really beautiful IMO.

If you go to the end of 7 mile beach (which by the way is only 5 miles long) where the true public part is (all of 7 mile beach is public but most of it is backed by resorts and condo/time share units) there are things to do and rent down there.

I have to agree w/ jel511. 7 mile beach is nice (or at least was), but I would not term as "beautiful". The beach is nice and wide in most places, but I like St. John too. It's resorts vs. tropical foliage.

Thanks,
I think I am going to look into stingray island instead.
I have a three year old and nine year old and wanted something safe and simple.
Thanks guys!

There is no such thing as stingray island, it's called stingray city. It's a snorkling place near one of the reefs that surround Grand Cayman. There are no beaches here, it's in the middle of the ocean. The water depth varies from 4 - 8 feet depending on where your boat stops and tidal conditions. You really won't have any problems on 7 mile beach, though there are really no services (ie bathrooms and places to eat) on the public part.

Just to give a little different opinion here, we LOVE Grand Cayman, in particular seven mile beach. My parents fly down twice a year and we usually go with them every other year (due to the expense). It IS beautiful for sure. White, CLEAN sand. Nice to go out in the water, no seaweed, etc that we experienced at Castaway Cay. Is is a beautiful, relaxing vacation spot, we love it!! Any questions, just ask! We are familiar with about all of Grand Cayman and are happy to answer any questions! You will have fun no matter what you do there! A bad day in Cayman is better than a good day in Detroit ! :rotfl:

Any other suggestions on what to do in Grand Cayman? It will be me, my DH and DD 8. Thanks!

If you go to Sea Grape Beach or Courtyard, just ask a taxi driver to bring you there - $4 per person each way, there are plenty of facilities. There is food, drink, rest rooms, outdoor showers, etc. You can rent all sorts of water sports, including jet skis, water skiing, parasailing, kayaks, etc. We loved 7 mile beach and had a great day. We were just adults, but it was very relaxing. There were lots of kids enjoying it as well.

love2travel - there is a turtle farm you could go to. There is HELL, which is a tourist trap type place with some rock formations. You will certainly want to look into Stingray City with your DD8 and if interested book with a private tour guide.
