Has anyone been bumped up to a better resort at arrival?

Here's my dream. I go to check in at Pop in December and they say, "Gee, we are overbooked, how would you like __ instead? Fill in the blank with the resort of your choice. Has this ever happened to anyone. Can you ask at check in if a different resort is available at a discount?

Some would disagree that we were moved to a better resort but upon checking in at the AKL we were asked if we could move to Saratoga Springs. We had stayed at AKL before and liked it but we were up for the move. We had a standard view AP rate at the AKL for 114.00, so that is what we paid per night at SSR plus they gave us $50.00 per night for "inconvenience". We got a one bedroom, adjacent from the pool and bus stop with a patio that had a lake/pond view. It was quite a deal! Things like that won't usually happen to us.

I think it is rare to get an upgrade upon arrival to a different resort. I think it is more likely that you'll get a e-mail or a call beofre your arrival to ask if you if you'd like to take part in an upgrade. We got an e-mail to upgrade from POP to OKW or SSR in March. We took it at OKW. When we got there my name was mistakenly under three different reservations. One ressie was for a 1 bedroom so they surprised us and gave us the 1 br. instead of the studio. It was a dream upgrade!!! I've always wanted to stay at OKW! And now I love it, but will have to wait for another upgrade situation or rent DVC points to ever stay there again!

That's a good dream, heck I'd settle for an upgrade to a preferred location:rotfl:

One May visit, upon arrival at 1:00 AM at the Beach Club, they told us OOPS the resort was full and we had to be moved next door to the Yacht Club, waterview. We actually prefer the YC and despite the added check-in time, we were pretty happy.

A couple times WL issued us a Courtyard view or King when we had Standard booked. The WL upgrades were on weekdays at less than capacity.
