Has anybody taken a fishing excursion?

I was thinking of adding this one afternoon during our fall 07 family trip. My plan would be to schedule a trip leaving from the Grand Floridian. Then the guys could go fish while we girls go to tea. My only concern is that it may not be an "authentic" enough trip for the guys - DH and 2 SILs 28 & 30. What I mean is that, tho they'd like the break from the parks, I don't think they'd be thrilled with just floating around looking at the scenery. Will they actually catch something? Is it worth the $$$?
Thanx for your opinions! :tink:

My husband and I went fishing on two different trips. We had a very good time, the guides were great. They don't "take over", they help you out as much or as little as you want. They do their best to find good fishing holes and if you're not catching something here, then they try other there or clear across the lake. But they give it some time, you're not going from here to there right away. On the other hand, you don't sit all day in one spot. We always caught some but of course there is no guarantee how many you'll catch, if any.

My husband is the fisherman, I just like going out on the boat but I'll fish too. Last time in 2004, we were docked at MK, where the ferry docks. Everytime a ferry came in & people were disembarking, I caught a fish. Ok, not everytime, but enough that we joked I was showing off. :goodvibes It think it was a good advertisement. They don't rush you, you can take pics holding your fish, the guide will even use your camera to take the picture if you want.

It is expensive but we both totally enjoyed ourselves and would do it again.
Just remember sunscreen, you're sitting out in the open hot sun for several hours. I believe the guides bring cold sodas gratis.

My dad, brother and I took a last minute fishing trip on our last morning in Dec. 05. We left from the Yacht Club. Our guide was great. Took us to where the fish were and let us do the fishing. Didn't act like a know-it-all, which can sometimes happen. Here are some pics of my brother with some of the nicer fish we landed.

The last picture is a bird my brother caught. The guide was feeding the bird (said he "knew" the bird and that he was always lurking around the boat). On the next cast the bird took my brother's bait. We got a good laugh (and the bird wasn't hurt).

That bird is one of the funnier pictures I have seen :rotfl2:

I have been wondering this also. Here is the info I found

Fishing excursions are available from the following WDW marinas:

BoardWalk Resort
Contemporary Resort
Coronado Springs Resort
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Old Key West
Polynesian Resort
Port Orleans Resort
Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa
Yacht Club Resort
Downtown Disney Marketplace

I'm just wondering if you will catch from all these places or if some are better than others. We will be staying at OKW, but don't mind traveling to another port if it means better fishing.

I am also wondering if there is a best place to fish. I assume POR, OKW and SSR are all in the same waterway by DTD and that the Poly, GF are by MK, Do the EPCOT resorts go into EPCOT or just the water by the Boardwalk Swan and Dolph and B&Y?
Also-what about price? How lonf? Do we need to Bring anything-poles or bait? BIRD FOOD? ;) :rotfl2:

Thanx everyone for your responses.
Hornislander - your pictures sold me. Your brother looks like he's having a good time (not sure about the bird tho!) And that sure looks like a real bass he's holding.
Philagoofy - thanks for the reminder about the hot sun. We're staying off site that trip, so I'll just plan on a short afternoon and we'll head back "home" afterward to jump in the pool & have a little BBQ dinner later. Then we old folks will probably sit with the grandkiddies while the young adults have a night out at PI. It'll probably be the guys' favorite day of the whole trip!

The guides have plenty of supplies, you don't need to but you can bring your own rods & reels. If you go to this websites homepage & click on the "fishing excursions updates" in the little news section at the top of the page, it'll give you more specifics.

We did a 7am excursion from the Boardwalk in 2000. Since we left early, we got to go fishing in the middle of world showcase lagoon, which was pretty nice. I would call and ask if they leave from there and still take you in the middle of epcot. I don't fish, but it was fun. That was just DH & I. We plan to go again once DDs are a little older.
