Has anybody had their gall bladder removed and a c-section?

I don't mean at the same time, or even close to each other. I'm just trying to gauge which recovery was worse for you. My dh had his gall bladder out the other day (laprascopic) and he just seems to be in so much pain. It seems so much less invasive than a section (which I've had) I'm wondering what the difference is. I feel so bad for him!

I can't imagine that the recovery from his type of surgery would be more painful that the recovery from a c-section. However, I have only had c-sections, and everyone experiences pain differently. I think the difference is that he is a man and you're a woman! :teeth: :teeth:

I had a friend who had her gall bladder removed a few weeks before delivering. I think the gall bladder trouble for her was worse than having the baby--but I don't believe she had a c-section.

I had a c-section. That was painful. At least the recovery part was; I was knocked out during the surgery. I had my gall bladder removed almost 6 months later. That was done laproscopically. No pain at all.

still have my gall bladder but I did have a hysterectomy about 2 wks ago. I thought it would be very similar to the c-sec. WRONG! I was up and moving with no problems the day after the c-sec. It's been 2 wks with this surgery and I'm still having problems with pain, exhaustion, etc. The dr says it's because he had to remove something (obviously) and that means other organs have to reposition or be moved by him.

Yep, man vs woman... :rotfl:

I haven't had either, so can't really help. I do get so annoyed with my DH sometimes, though. I suffer from migraines at best several times a month, but often several times a week. I have to go on with life when I have them, even though I am able to take medication (which knocks me out). The only time I really can't do what I need to do is when I get a terrible one that doesn't respond to my meds. On Sunday my DH, 5yo DS, and I were getting ready to go to the pool when my DH got an occular migraine. There is no pain associated with this, just a visual aura. Well, my DH had to go lie down, he took a nap, and acted like he'd been hit by a mack truck. He did eventually make it to the pool, but he didn't want to drive for the rest of the day. Big baby is what I was thinking (I was good, though, and didn't actually call him a baby). :teeth:

I've had both and I think the C-section was a much longer recovery. However, after laproscopic gall bladder surgery, I did find getting up from lying down or sitting a bit painful. I was sore for 2 or 3 days but it wasn't too bad. I hope your husband feels better soon! :)

I had the old fashioned gall bladder surgery (where they completely cut you open) and TWO c sections.

Tell your DH I said to stop being a wimp. ;)

My sister has had both, I think she was in more pain after the gall bladder surgery. She was basically *out of it* for 2-3 days after. Oh and she's had 4 c-s'.

I have had both, and the gal bladder was worse for me, although it wasn't bad. The only thing that bothered me about it were the gas pains that raidate up into your shoulders from when they inflate your stomach. They say they go away in 24 hours but mine lasted about three or four days I think. That was the only pain I had, and a heating pad and the right position helped almost everytime.

ETA- although the pains were somewhat managable, they were BAD! It had me in tears a few times, so he may just have a lot of air that has to work it's way out.

I had a C-section, and then a year later my gall bladder taken out. I had a lot of problems with my C-section, and it was VERY painful. I had an infection and all kinds of icky stuff, so when I had my gall bladder taken out, it was a breeze!!! I asked the nurse in recovery if I had surgery yet! She laughed!!! It was very painless, I was up and moving right away. :rotfl:

I had my gall bladder out December 12th 1999. I got pregnant on New Years Eve of the same year. Had my dd by c section on 9/20/2000. I think gall bladder was worse I couldn't even stand up straight for 4 or 5 days after the surgery. I had a hard time getting my belly button to heal. I had to tape it together every morning for a long time! Maybe because I was pregnant before I had time to heal. With my c-section I didn't even take a whole lot of pain medication after the second day or so. But I had my section after 22 hours of back labor, I was ready to have dd pulled out through my nose with no pain killers by the time I had her!LOL You are really sore after the gall bladder when it is done lapriscopically(spelling) because they have to wiggle it around things and pull etc to get it out. I had surgery for endometrosis and a cystoscope on the same day in 1994 and that hurt very bad too. I think it has to do with the incision in the belly button...think about it there is movement or pressure on your belly button with alost every move you make...sitting standing breathing lying down coughing laughing sneezing etc it HURTS when you are cut and stitched there! I have a high pain threshold and I think the c section was the lesser of the evils....could have been the reward at the end though. I am getting OT here but maybe the worst is passing kidney stones with NO help or pain relievers over a long holiday weekend when you are 5 months pregnant. Ranks right up there with 22 hours of intense labor! Men are wimps and babies when they are sick if they were having the babies our species would die off. My dh takes to the bed for days for even a cold....I talked the DR into letting me come home after 2 or 3 hours from my gallbladder surgery. My nurse said no way gallbladder patients HAVE to stay overnight..not me I went home I had 2 new puppies at home and told DR I had to go look after them but I did beg. I asked to go home the day after my section dh thought I had lost my mind, but they made me stay from Wed. nite til Sat. am. DH wants to be whereever the drugs are when he is sick/or recuperating from surgery. I just wanna be in my bed or on my couch with privacy.

I've had two C-sections and the first was the worst! They waited too long to do it and I had a lot of problems. The second was a lot easier plus the nurse showed me how to roll sideways and then get up. It saved a lot of pain that way! Happily I've still got my gall bladder!

I've had 2 C - sections and the 2nd was the worst! Well the first few days were anyway.

I asked my mom, shes had both...says the csection was much wors.e

I had a c-section and then my gall bladder removed 5 weeks later.

I would vote for the gall bladder being worse. I just remembering thinking that these four small incisions shouldn't hurt that bad.

I've had both. Gall bladder removal when I was 22, and c-sec when I was 28. The recovery from the section was a lot harder for me.

I only needed Ibuprofen post-op for my C-section which was fortunate because narcotics make me puke. I still have my gall bladder, but I've cared for many people post lap-choley. Some suffer terribly from the gas pains, while others are bopping out the door later that day with hardly a twinge. The worst part about the gas pains is there is nothing you can do to really treat them. Pain meds don't work well for this kind of pain, and since the air is outside the intestine all the anti-gas meds in the world won't touch it either. The pain from a C-section is generally much more treatable.

thanks everyone. I was getting pretty concerned at the amount of pain he seemed to be having...which he insisted was not gas...but today he is starting to do better.
