Has anybody had a CT Scan done of your sinuses?

If so, how was it??

I keep having re-occuring sinus infections so my dr. is sending me in to get it checked. If you had the CT scan done, did it show anything? How long does it take?

I had a CT with contrast done on mine about 12 years ago. They were trying to see if I had sinus problems, or Trigeminal Neuralgia. I remember the contrast part was a pain (literally). THey did an IV with something in it to show the contrast part and it burned going in. THe whole thing took like 45 minutes or more I think.

i had one done when i was really young. i used to get sinus infections all the time. it was bad, like once a month.

so i got it done and the doctor(he was an allergy and sinus specalist) said that my sinuses were the worst he's ever seen in all his years of practice. said they were inflamed horribly.

i was diagnosed with chronic sinusitus after that.

I've had lots of CAT scans and MRIs. I'm very claustrophopic, so I have to keep my eyes closed and just imagine myself somewhere else. In some machines you can have music (they let you pick a radio station) and in some there are mirrors so you can see out.

I hope they find out what's causing your infections!

I had one done less than a year ago due to chronic sinus infections. Quick and easy. Nothing to worry about. Mine came out normal and my problems are from allergies. 2 weeks and I get to experience allergy testing. I would take the sinus cat scan over that any day! Good luck.

I have had quite a few of them. It wasn't that bad, I closed my eyes, or just went along with it. The newer machines rotate around you, which is more relaxing.

The reports are most facinating. I had no idea I had so many problems Still debating the sinus operation though, scary. I have been taking Claritin daily for a few days now, and it does seem to help a little. Did you know you can't go swimming for 6 weeks after the surgery! That took care of the entire summer, plus our vacation, so maybe, maybe, we'll see how the claritin works, and if not, the begining of the new year.

My son had one done last month. Took about 5 minutes, if that. Was much more painful having to be in the waiting room for over an hour before. And the bill that came after, of course!

I had one done - I had horrible sinus infections. Worst part was laying there still while the thing buzzed around your head. Not really that bad. I have a deviated septum from a broken nose when I was young. I am a canidate for the surgery but decided against it and my primary dr did not agree with the ear, nose & throat dr. I have been luck this year. I changed jobs in January and have not had one since. I think the air at my last two jobs did me in.

My DS9 just had a brain ct and sinus ct last week. Both took about 10 minutes. He said it was a breeze. His sinus ct showed a wingdinger of sinus infection. He's on a 20 day antibiotic and a steroid. The pediatrician said the type of infection he has is really hard to knock, so we'll see.

I had one done, without contrast, before I had my sinus surgery. It took less than 10 minutes and was easy.

My DD had a cat scan of her sinuses about 5 years ago. They found out she had a cyst in her sinus cavity along with bad sinusitis so she had sinus surgery. After the surgery her headaches went away.

Yes i did, last November - revealed I might have a probelm with my Eustachian tube caused by continuing sinus infections over the years. At 59, I got my first ear tube in that ear - since then my body has rejected both of the tubes put in - I take prescription Nasonex each day to keep the sinuses open - but, some days it doesn 't appear to work too well.
The CAT scan was easy, and I did keep my eyes closed - you should do well!Good luck to you.

They are a piece of cake and take less than 10 minutes. I have always had the machine that rotates around.

The bill at the end is the only painful thing

I have had both ct scan and sinus surgery with deviated septum. I would do it all over again. It helped tremendously!!

I haven't had it but DS11 has. He went through a phase of having near-constant ear & sinus infections. We tried antibiotic after antibiotic and the worst part was, he kept sharing his URi germs with DH who has severely limited immunity. So they took turns getting sick for a whole year Finally we had a CT done of Ds's sinuses and lo! He not only had a deviated septum, the septum was collapsed and the turbinates were huge. One nostril was swollen completely shut. He's autistic and nonverbal, so we had no idea he was having that much trouble.

Off to sinus surgery and it cured him! christian has have only 3-4 bouts of sinus infection in the last 2 yrs.

Oops... just remembered, that was an MRI.
Just had a head CT last month in the ER after I went in with a migraine that shot my BP up afer taking an Imitrex for the migraine. The CT took less than 10 minutes, it was the MRI that was so time consuming. It's rough when the mind starts to go

I had something done, can't remember if CT or MRI. Turned out the my allergies were causing my sinus infections. I also was on antibiotics every month for sinus infections. Did the allergy testing last October and now on weekly allergy shots. I have not had a sinus infection in the past year.

I had sinus x-rays and CT scans with and without contrast. Found out I am allergic to contrast. It took about 45 minutes, wasnt bad at all and it showed chronic sinusitis with polyps. I had sinus surgery shortly after.

Oh yea....everytime I get one they say you have a small infection... It is like duh, really? Quit being so "antibioctic phobic" people and gimmie the drugs. I feel like crap.

Yes, did the shots for 3+yrs too....that is a lifesaver although it got me to a certain point and that is it.
I would have to live in a bubble to be well since I am allergic to almost everything, not severely except a couple of molds are on the very high side, but mildly to everything doesn't do you wonders.

Now that I think about it....I need another one and a good ENT...I lost her when I moved. I miss her....she was so good to me and cleaned my ears every 6 weeks with a smile.

DD4 may need one of these-she has been on three rounds of antobotics due to a chronic sinus infection- we just started round three if this does not fix it we go to a CT scan.
