Has anybody considered RELOCATING to be closer to WDW?

Just before I read this DH and I had a small conversation about it LOL! I'm not so concerned w/ the heat or bugs. I'm very concerned about the quality of the schools though. Mabe when we're ready to buy a house, we'll reconsider.

I have lived in Florida all my life ( since I was 2 years old, so close enough) and it is so funny to hear you guys say how much you want to live here. I live 30 mins from Disney and have a good friend that lives in Celebration. Let me throw in a few "native realities" and you can decide for yourself.

Celebration is beautiful for about the first six months you live there then the romance fizzles and you realize two things. 1. you paid way too much for the size house that you got ! 2. Unless you work at Disney you are far from everything !

Which leads me to my next point.
I-4 traffic is horrible. Orlando is bidding for the 2010 olympics and the committee won't even consider it unless they submit a plan for fixing the traffic issues.

Weather
Humidity is horrible and 88 degrees here is very different to 80 degrees up north. Here it feels like 95.
We have no seasons. If you didn't know any better you would think they were summer and then a little less summer.

Cost of WDW-
Once you have lived here for more than 3-4 years and have gotten your fill of going to Disney. Paying almost 50 dollars a person for admission gets old FAST!

Don't get me wrong I LOVE DISNEY ! I am going on a Disney Cruise in Aug.2001 & Oct. 2002. But like anything else. " The grass is always greener on the otherside BUT you still have to mow the lawn!

If you're trying to make your dreams of living near the Mouse a reality, there's a big job fair Aug. 13th in Orlando. For $10, the organizers will circulate your resume to all the participants at the job fair.

Here's a link for more info:

The job fair falls right in the middle of my two-week Disney vacation. I guess I'll be packing business attire and my resume. ;)

Not relocating, but searching for a summer home. We like the seasons here in WV. The fall is beautiful, but the summers are a little boring. We have 2 sets of friends who own condo's at St Pete so I guess we are jumping on the wagon this year. I'd rather drive an hour or so to see the mouse than 16! We are in Fl every chance we get long weekends, holidays, summer etc...so for what we put out in hotel rooms we could be making a payment and have a full time place that our family and friends could enjoy also.

....and I hated it. The weather was nice enough (we lived on the so called "Gold Coast" and always had a breeze), but I missed the seasons and my family up north. I admit it, I was homesick. My in-laws just moved back after living in FLA (Daytona Beach area)10 years, and I have to say that I always liked visiting there rather than living there. In the last 3 years, they were evacuated twice from their home, once for fires, once for hurricane.

Now, if I could live in Cinderella's castle,I might change my tune

Are you kidding? When we went down for our 25th anniversary in 1999, that's all we could talk about. Just wait till the kids move out. I could see us selling the house, quitting our jobs and moving down for a year or two. We'd keep our cabin here so we'd have a place to retire to...

Ah, but who am I kidding, we couldn't handle it more than about 6 months...we're Minnesotans and can't stand it above about 72 degrees, so the summer months would do us in! But I would have to live on property or in Celebration, 'cuz I don't think I could handle reality in Florida after experiencing the World. We'd have to stay in our own little fantasy land full time ;)
