Has anybody considered RELOCATING to be closer to WDW?

DH and I have been tossing this around some. At this point, we're just debating the pros and cons. One of the cons is the heat during the summer. On the other hand, it's been in the mid 80s here every day for the past week! We are apparently skipping spring altogether this year.

I was just wondering if others out there have these thoughts as well. And if anyone has done so, for the main purpose of being able to go to WDW more often.

We're considering about moving to Florida in the future....when we retire! This won't happen for a while!! I told my hubby that I'm sick and tired of winter year after year after year. I am definitely not a winter person.

and I love it. Working for the Main Mouse is fun, and the weather is a BIG plus. :D

Yes, as a matter of fact, just recently DH & I have "flirted" with the idea as well! You're right, the heat issue is 1st on my mind! DH has expressed interest in working for the Mouse or for surrounding cities (Public Works, streets, etc.) Beyond the heat, I'm not sure what other cons there are! <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

Large creepy crawling things and that awful summer heat are good reasons for me. However, I really enjoy the sharp change of seasons here in New Jersey. I can't even tell you which season I love the most for I love them all...even the winter and the beautiful snow. So, I don't think we would ever consider a move to Florida just to be closer to Disney. Actually, I can only take Disney in a once every other year dose. The magic starts to wear thin for us if we go too often.

when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, but if ya wanna discount ya better live in Florida!

Well,

It takes so long and costs so much I would really consider emigrating to Florida at the drop of a hat just to be near Disney.

We are really envious of all these posts from you guys that say you are just popping down for the weekend etc.

Also, for the most part the weather is dull and grey for huge periods of time so any glimpse of those lovely Florida rays are always welcome.

Will it ever happen - I doubt it but we can always dream!

:D

I only live 3 hours southeast of Orlando. I always wanted to work for Disney. Being a chef, I had planned on working for them in 96'. But Mother Nature had her own plans and I wound up 5 months pregnant and married before I knew it. I have a really good idea for opening a restaurant in surrounding area's but $$$ is so hard to come by. I'll keep trying.

I am trying to talk my husband into asking for a transfer to either Ft. Lauderdale or Jacksonville. The gov't has these to sites in Fl I think it would be awesome to live at least closer to Disney. Plus, my parents live in Florida so that is the reason I am giving him to consider a transfer. I keep telling him I want to live closer to my parents but I really want to be closer to DisneyWorld :D My hubby used to live in Fl. He didn't like it. that is because he used to work outside. Now, he has a cushy office job. So, I am trying to convince him it would be different. Wish me luck!!!! ;)

When we were moving from NJ five years ago, our two final options were Orlando (near my parents in Ocala), or Las Vegas (near my in-laws). We are both teachers, so we're pretty mobile.

The intense humidity (it's hot here, so that doesn't bother me) and the bugs were big cons for us. The location to theme parks and beaches kept it in the running!

At least we still ended up somewhere great and fun! Living in a tourist destination gives us plenty of visiting relatives, and we keep use our AP's for DL about six times per year.

ALL THE TIME! I have a friend who just moved there and is working at the OKW resort. I am so envious!

I daydream of living in the community called Celebration! Maybe someday 20 years or so from now...when the kids are on their own...

Too much heat and humidity there. In fact, Chicago is a bit too warm in the summer as well so next month we're moving to Minnesota! I would like the cost of living in Florida though...

Most Definitely!!! Within the next 2 years when my DH is out of school. The jobs in computers between the Orlando and Tampa areas are more prevalent than they are where we live, which would be great for DH. If I can't get a job working for THE MOUSE right away, I'm sure I will have absolutely no problem finding a job as a nurse (I'm an RN). DD can't wait :D I'm ready to go now, but DH only has 1 1/2 years to go, so we will wait so he won't loose credit hours transferring.
Can't wait to move to Florida :D

Have a Wonderful day, Eeyore

It's part of our retirement plan! We decided we want to work part time during phase one of our retirement. We realized we would go crazy after we finished our 1st career. The thought of choosing something new and in DH's case completely unrelated to his dental practice has him dreaming of captaining a boat at WDW!

YES!!!!

Someday I will move to Orlando. My dream is to live in Celebration. Hopefully we will be able to do this sooner then later (have to find a job there first though!) I used to live in Florida and you get used to the heat and humidity after the first summer. The bugs can be gross, but that is why you have a bug man come and spray your house each month!

At the very leat I plan on retiring there and working part time at WDW.

Melissa :)

if I had been able to get a transfer to orlando in 89 I would have been living there already! but that offcie was overcrowded as it was so I ended up back in pittsburgh. if I did move to fl it would have to be the gulf side.....I have always wanted to move to pensacola.....

My wife brings this up every so often. I'll consider trying to get a job in that area when they begin paying real salaries and stop offering "sunshine" wages.
