I was wondering if any one has ever used Expedia.com to book a trip (any trip)
and if so how was it working with them? Thank You Nettii:goodvibes

I've booked several trips with Expedia. They're easy to use and I always got a good price, especially when I was flexible on my travel dates.

Yes. I booked air and hotel for a trip I took to LA. Worked perfectly.

I also have used Expedia for several trips to Florida thru Upromise (a percentage goes to college savings program) , at a good price.

Expedia is my favourite site. I have book lots of hotels and a couple of flights through them without any problem.

We have used them twice and will NEVER use them again.

The first time we were booking a trip to Disneyland and Hawaii. I explained that we were only going to have two days in Anaheim so I needed a late flight out the second day to Honolulu and 2 day tickets to Disneyland. They got the 2 day ticket but booked out flight at 12:30, even though in our initial discussion I gave them the flight numbers, airline, and time of the flights I needed. Yes, I should have listened more closely when she repeated the information to me, but I had no idea she would change them or at least tell me if there were a problem. Immediately after our discussion and I printed out the vouchers I noticed the difference and phoned back--within 5 minutes. No changes were allowed so we had Disneyland tickets that were useless the second day.

Also there were charges at the hotel that are not covered when you book, so although the price may seem much cheaper, the desk clerk explained that Expedia never lets customers know about additional charges that must be paid at check-in.

The second time we booked just hotel reservations, assuming Expedia would, as advertised, have the lowest price available. Through a mistake by the hotel when we checked in, we discovered that a much lower price was available. I phoned Expedia about this and they would not make any changes.

It's like the old saying.

Fool me once, shame on me.
Fool me twice shame on thee.

I used them to book everything about 18 months ago for a trip home for my grandfathers memorial service - air, hotel, and car and never had a problem. I got a really good price on 2 adults and 1 infant (even bought her a seat).

We've booked many trips and our take: if you like to talk to a human, use Orbitz and avoid Expedia. If you prefer to book online, Expedia and Orbitz are usually within $20 of each other for a package (air, hotel, tickets); for air-only they are so variable it is hard to compare; for room-only on- and off-site, we've found that the hotel web site has had the best rates.

Love Love Love Expedia! I use them for almost every trip I book, especially flight only trips. And I used to use them exclusively for business trips I booked. AND they have been great about price matching ("if you see a lower price somewhere else...") and then crediting.

I just saw a special on this! Those hotel charges you're talking about? They are not disclosed even if you call the hotel and book directly through them. As for the second time you booked, did you fax or email them "proof" of the lower rate? I intentionally try to find lower rates and then get expedia to match the lower rate and then they knock off another 10%! This has worked for me twice now and I've never had a problem with it! I'm sorry that you had a bad experience though!

Are we talking about the same website here? How could they book you for the wrong flight? You put in the information that you would like (i.e. late flight) and they come back with your options and then YOU choose the flight you would like. You mean that you did this and they changed it at some point without telling you? Are you sure maybe the airline made the change and not Expedia?

As far as the fees with the hotel, you said that Expedia doesn't tell you about them. That's not true. They are added on at the same time the taxes are when they give you your quote. I think it's called a "service charge" and, in my experience, it's been very minor.

If you want to find the lowest prices, you have to do the legwork. Before I ever book a reservation for a hotel, flight, etc., I call the hotel, airline, etc. directly to see what the lowest price they can offer me is first. Then I shop around for cheaper prices. I don't see where Expedia or any other site says that they will compensate you if you find a cheaper deal elsewhere. They might have price matches but that's something different that you can't collect on after the fact.

Moving this over to the Resorts and Booking board.. you'll get the best answers there!

Thanks!

Yep, I use Expedia quite often and have never had a problem. I found my best ever Disney deal on Travelocity though...waterview CBR for right around $100 a night =)

Expedia and hotels.com will--for the most part--have almost identical rates (they're owned by the same company). So, you could probably go either way with those.

As for the "hidden fees", front desk clerks at hotels generally wont disclose your rate if you've booked through expedia (or hotels.com, priceline, travelocity, or orbitz for that matter) because the hotel actually charges you a lower rate than the rate presented to you by the travel website. The travel websites ask the hotels not to disclose the actual contracted rate and in this way they keep you from knowing how much their service charge is.

I've used Expedia inthe past, and not had any problems.

On the other hand, I've found that there prices and terms often aren't the BEST. At one time they were, but not so much any more. The industry has adjusted.

I have had very good service and was unable to find a lower price. I've not used them to book airfare so cannot comment.
