With all this Hurricane and tropical Storm talk I got to wondering.
Has DCL ever actually Cancelled a cruise due to bad weather in Port Canaveral?
Thanks,
Kathy

No. A few times ships have had to sail different ITINERARIES but it is EXCEEDINGLY rare for a cruise to be cancelled completely. DCL has never cancelled a cruise due to bad weather. :)

Other than a disabled ship, it will take a freak of nature for a cruise line to cancel a trip. The cost of housing, transporting and rescheduling thousands of guests is prohibitively expensive. The ship's ability to sail away will usually keep it from any real danger.

In August 1999, we sailed on a 3-day cruise on the Magic. We found out later, we were the last ship to get out of Port Canaveral before it was closed for Hurricane Dennis. We hugged the coast of Florida instead of sailing directly to Nassau to avoid the storm. DCL tried to make arrangements for us to visit Key West, but could not arrange it. Instead, we spent a wonderful sunny day at sea instead of going to Nassau. The next day we couldn't get into Castaway Cay and went to Nassau instead. That was a big letdown... So, we had to book another cruise (4-day Magic in March 2000) so we could get to Castaway Cay!!

Glad I'm not the only one starting to feel a little "uncomfortable" about the weather!
We've had a week of slight misfortune here in Indiana and the current weather situation is making us only a little more concerned than usual!

It's interesting that if you read DCL's "cruise contract," you will find they even have the right to substitute a non-Disney ship if needed. That would be a real bummer! I'd rather have it cancel and get rescheduled than go on a non-Disney ship!

I am one of those people who really wants to read the fine print but I just "don't get it"! Thanks for sharing this with us -
I didn't know that they could substitute another ship - just hope it's not the "SS Minnow" - although I'd love to be a "castaway"!

Rae - Did you know that the registered office for Magical Cruise Company, Limited (doing business as Disney Cruise Line) is actually in London, England? Just trivia not relevant to this thread. Sorry!

Really? Wow! Just another bit of information that is very interesting! Are you kidding?! I love that kind of stuff!

Girl, you are a storehouse of information! I love that! Keep giving us hints, making suggestions, and providing the "scoop" on things!

I checked on the US Virgin Islands to see how the weather will be - better than the Western Caribbean that's for sure.

We had the plane ride from "YOU KNOW WHERE" last February and I just don't want to go through that again, especially with my 73 year old Mom who has never flown or cruised before.

Any insights on that one?!
(I am definitely bringing a lot of bonine this trip!)
