i know who is playing griphook in #6

it's......

Warwick Davis - don't know who he is??? sure you do.

He was in Willow with Val Kilmore

Starwars - Ok he was an Ewok and you wouldn't have seen his face

The New Adventures of Pinocchio

still don't know

ok how about his recent film

here's a pic of him - it's interesting that the same character has 2 completely different looks but yes - it's the guy who plays Professor Flitwick.

He was also in the last Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie.

He is a regular guest at the WDW Star Wars Weekends. We were at one of his presentations once, and he explained that he was having problems with the heavy makeup and prosthetics for the original Prof. Flitwick look, and asked to get it changed to a different appearance.

One minor thing that has always bugged me in the films is the differences in accents across the Weasley family. Molly and Arthur both have Black Country accents, Fred and George are Northerners, Ron has a 'cor Blimey' accent while Ginny and Percy have BBC English accents.

I would be interested to know if this is obvious to you in the US, or do they all just sound like they have 'English' accents? In real life it would be unheard of to come across a family that grew up together yet had such differeing accents.

I didn't notice it so much within the Weasley family but I definitely notice the difference between Harry, Ron & Hermione. Hermione definitely has that "upper crust" accent, and Ron almost has what I would call a cockney accent. Harry seems to be in between the 2. I think their accents really fit their characters. Now I'll have to pay attention to all the Weasleys!

By they way, I can figure out the others, but what exactly is a Black Country accent?

I never noticed! They all just sound "English" to me. Now I have to watch one of the movies again and pay attention to that! What is a BBC accent?

Ok, I'm jumping in here, a week late. I too, finished the book for the second time the day before the movie came out. BIG MISTAKE! I will NOT do that with book 7, I am going to reread it now.

I could not believe they cut out the battle at the end. And I was also not pleased that they left out most of the relationship with Tonks and Lupin.

I also really did not like the burrows scene, I thought it was completely unnecessary! There was a lot more stuff they could have left in, had they not added that.

I thought giving us the info with the vanishing cabinets right away was a little odd, but didn't bother me that much. I did not like however, that Harry was not put under a spell by Dumbledore at the end. I don't buy that no matter what Dumbledore told him, that he would just stand there and watch.

I also really missed having Dobby/Kreature, Bill/Fleur and the Dursleys. I think they are all important to the final movie even if they didn't play all that much in this book.

Overall I loved the movie, I love them all, but I always pick them apart. As long as I can watch Rupert Grint, I am happy, he is so darn funny and adorable!!! And Snape, Alan Rickman is wonderful!
The Battle at the end was cut out becasue the director didn't want it to be repetitive. Because the BIG BIG battle at the end of 7 is much more important really.
They used the mini-Burrow battle as a replacement for the Hogwarts Battle. And I think as a little reminder that no one or nowhere is really safe.

I am sooo disappointed. There were several things that bothered me. I haven't read all 17 pages but I will wade thru soon.

#1. I felt that this movie was such a disrespect to Dumbledore. I waited the whole movie for the emotional build up to Dumbledores murder (lets call it what it was) and I had a stash of tissues all ready. When I read the Lightning Struck Tower I cried and kept shaking my head no, no . I was emotionally spent after finishing that chapter. That Dumbledore took the precious seconds to immobilize Harry so he couldn't get hurt and was disarmed by Draco because of it, is such a subtle thing but it tells you how much he loved Harry. (he placed Harry's well being above his own.) That Harry didn't come to Dumbledores aid is totally out of character and something Harry would never ever ever do in a million years. The movie also didn't adequately address Dumbledore begging and Snapes reluctance. It didn't show each characters reaction to Dumbledore's death ~ MacGonnagal blaming herself that she sent for Snape, Hagrid disbelief and howling grief, Flitwick being stunned by Snape, Sprout and the others deciding how to go on, Hagrid being included in the discussions by MacGonnagal telling him that he is a teacher also. Also everyones reaction to Snapes involvement and how betrayed they felt. That Luna and Neville were the only DA members that fought with Ron, Ginny and Hermoine. Harry's reaction to MacGonnagals becoming Head Mistress and the office no longer being Dumbledore's. It cut out Harry giving Felix Felicis to Ron,Hermoine and Ginny and it saving them from the Deatheaters. Also if you could apparate into Hogwarts (which we know you can't but Dumbledore does it with Harry.) Why bother with the vanishing cabinet? Why would you need it? The Deatheaters could just apparate in. This movie didn't pay Dumbledore the respect his character deserved. He deserved a huge battle and the dramatic aftermath. With all the other issues I had with the movie this single thing could have redeemed it. It would have left you on a high note rather than a big fizzle. THis was our Obi Won Kenobi/Darth Vader climax. At least there it was a huge battle and you felt like shouting no when he sacrificed himself for Luke. We were robbed of our moment.

#2. Fleur/Bill/Mrs.Weasley ~ I was really disappoined that this whole thing was cut. I mean what a chance for some comic moments with the Ginny/Mrs.Weasley/Ron reaction to Fleur and Bill at the beginning of the story. And Bill getting mauled by Fenrir and Fleur and Mrs.Weasley coming together over Bill's sick bed "I am good looking enough for both of us". And the Weasleys worry about Bill. Will he be a werewolf? Won't he? They should have cut out that stupid burning scene of the Burrow and used the time for this.

#3. Harry vs Draco ~ Draco begins to do the Crucio curse and Harry counter with the Half Blood Prince's curse (Sectum sempra). This makes Harry look like he was a jerk.

#4. The movie is called the Half Blood Prince. A large part of the book is the discussion of who is the Half Blood Prince. Not addressed well enough. I mean the revealation it was Snape was poorly done.

#5. They also never had Harry tell Ron that he didn't give him Felix Felicis and that Ron did all the great Quiddich playing. A small thing but Ron deserved to know.

#6. Why explain about Lily and the fish that when a wizard dies their magic dies if you weren't going to show Harry suddenly getting unfrozen because Dumbledore's dead.

Thiings I liked

#1. Rupert Grint ~ I thought he stole the movie. The nervous Ron before the try outs was hysterical. And the love potion/poisoning scene. Fabulous. He did such a great job.

#2. Emma Watson did a nice job. She was very good portraying a broken heart.

#3. I thought Slughorn was well done.

#4. I also thought Tom Felton/Draco was very good. Enjoyed seeing him struggle with his burden.

Actually, all the curses before Sectumsempra were non-verbal. Therefore, Draco could have been trying to use Crucio or another equally bad curse.

This is just me guessing but maybe the put that because they weren't going to show Dumbledore immobilizing Harry?

My daughter pointed that out to me right after the first movie came out. She is really into linguistics and loves trying to figure out where people are from based on their accents. She is really good with UK accents, which seems odd to me. She's never been out of the US.

I didn't really pay any attention prior to her mentioning it.

I agree! I didn't like that part, because I think that Harry would have stepped in.

well i'm bias because my family are scottish but my aunt has a thicker scottish accent while my mother has a more english accent and they were both born in Port Seaton and their brother has a very obvious scottish accent - thicker then my aunt

My father hardly has one at all while his sister has a noticeable one

i'm not sure the general american public would notice the difference since most english/scottish try to loose their english accent for an american one.

Yup- he played Griphook in the first Harry Potter movie, too. He was the goblin at Gringott's Bank who took Harry and Hagrid to their vaults.

i'm not sure if i had forgotten about that or if i just didn't pay attention since it wasn't a huge sceen.

but ya now that you mention it - i do recognize his voice

Black Country = Midlands, say Birmingham, Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, that sort of region.

For BBC English, think middle-class accent, with no obvious regional inflection. Not quite "I say, old chap, pip pip" though - somewhere between the 2. :)

While I can tell the difference between a Gordy, a North Londoner and a Scouser, I don't know if I can pinpoint all the different English accents, much more than I can tell a Kentuckian from someone from Tennessee. I can't say I noticed the difference in their accents, but to be honest, I wasn't focused as much on how they sounded aws opposed to what they were saying.

I do love your description of 'BBC English', though :lmao:

While it does not bug me, I have noticed the differences in accents. :)

Does anyone know when the Half Blood Prince will be out on DVD?

I don't think a date has been set, but I would imagine before or around the Christmas.

The fall entertainment preview in my local paper this weekend, said November, but that the actual date wasn't set yet.

I love the Leaky Cauldron and Pottercast.

Do any of you guys ever go to HP conventions?

I think HBP comes out on DVD in the UK (and maybe some other countries?) on December 7th and in the US on December 8th.

I'm asking for years 1 and 2 on DVD Ultimate Collector's Editions for Christmas. I think they come out the same day as the HBP DVD does. I can't wait!
