Harry Potter: Halloween = Not His Best Day

I predicted Snape loving Lily from "I heard that awful boy telling her!" I wish he had lived. I think JKR only killed Snape because she hated that the fans love him.

I disagree; I think she loved Snape too. His was the biggest sacrifice she made in the books. It was his death that enabled Harry to know how to defeat Voldemort and it was his memories that gave Harry the strength to do it. If Snape has simply told Harry what had to be done, do you think Harry would have believed him? Or even stopped to listen?

I'm with you; I think she loved Snape (I really think she loved all of her characters), but there was no way Harry would listen to Snape. Seeing his memories made Harry understand what he had to do. And made him realize (and us too) what sacrifices Snape made. And obviously Harry honored him by giving his son Severus as a middle name. (that part always makes me cry)

I knew they'd end up together in Book 4. I still don't think they're the best for eachother. :P I predicted Snape loving Lily from "I heard that awful boy telling her!" I wish he had lived. I think JKR only killed Snape because she hated that the fans love him.

Snape turned into a bat? I thought they just said he seemed batlike. He was able to fly like Voldemort, I think that's what you're thinking of. I don't remember him turning into a bat.

Okay not exactly a bat, but that he could fly...like a bat...whatever.

They suggested that Lupine was actually James.
I guess it could've been possible - she could've found a way to do it, but one of the things that kept harry from having his own identity away from "the incident" was that he looked so much like James (but with Lily's eyes. :) )

I didn't remember that part either! But I haven't reread 7 and I've only read once and listened to 6 one time each.
I definitely liked 6 MUCH better on the second run through. Same thing for 5.
For a long time, 4 was my favorite until 7 came out.
and the epilogue has to be loved!
knowing that draco was a slytherin but not a murderer - the sacrifice that snape, dumbeldore and even draco's parents made succeeded in making him a functioning member of society - made so many of the deaths acceptable.
and harry and ginny's kids not knowing the history made me cry, but in a good way - of course they'll learn once they get to hogwarts, like Harry learned of his history - but Harry and Ginny let them be kids.
And what's his name (Neville? I need to reread them all now!) becoming a professor! woo! good for him.

I keep meaning to buy the full set now. but it's so much! I had 1 through 5 in a set, but people kept borrowing them and they disappeared. :sad1:

I have three copies of 2, however. :lmao:

I also need to buy the 5th dvd. it's the only dvd I don't have.

Oh, that's interesting. Find your list, I'd love to see that!

I am rereading number 4 and none of their predictions come true.

In the first month they predict drownings, Harry losing a bet, Ron getting burned, none of this happened unless you consider Ron singing his eyebrows during Exploding Snap later on in the book. I suppose you could stretch it by saying the drowning occurred in book 7, but it really didn't and it wasn't the water but the chain that was the culprit.

I haven't reread Goblet yet, but just based on what you're saying, there are elements of truth to the predictions in re: to the second challenge for the drownings, and like you said, the eyebrows. Perhaps that's what the previous poster means.

Here's something that's always bugged me: at the end of Azkaban, Sirius' letter to Harry says:

"It was I who sent you the Firebolt. Crookshanks took the order to the Owl Office for mre. I used your name but told them to take the gold from my own Gringotts vault."

Um...so that wouldn't have raised any eyebrows at Quality Quidditch Supply?

"Oh, look...our No 1 Most Wanted wants to buy a broom for Harry Potter! Perhaps we should inform the authorities. Nah, let's just send it and not bother with the technicalities!" :confused3

Goblins are a neutral party to wizarding problems, that's why they do the banking. They don't care whose vault it is and wouldn't tell a third party for privacy reasons. The note probably said to use funds from Vault #856 or something.

If that was the case wizards could send anonymous notes to retailers all the time and charge it to someone else's account. I just can't figure a way to have that action not catch someone's attention.

Oh man, that's too funny! The whole thought, not just this post.

Nie0214, I'm sure that Gringotts wouldn't have a problem with not reporting him, but the quidditch supply company should have had an issue with it. Unless it's all so automated that no one noticed...like they are the amazon of the wizarding world and it's all some wizard-form of computerized, and the computer doesn't have a "notice who is wanted" flag. :)

Maybe Sirius put a spell on the order form.

It's possible. That just always niggles at me, along with the sorting in Book 1where it states there were only 3 people left to be sorted, and yet she lists 4 names.

Hi, I'm Mal and I'm a nitpicker. :rotfl: Watching movies with me can be annoying. ;) That's why I don't go to the theatre; I stick to being annoying in my living room!

So does Tonk's parent's raise the son??

I thought by making some one a godparent was that they would be the one to take care of the child if anything happened to the parents?? I know he's a little young at 17/18 to be taking care of the kid. But it seemed to confuse me when I read the epilogue.

Yeah, we're bad about dictating the movie... even in the theater. Although you know half the people there are doing the same thing.

Yes. Tonk's mother raises Teddy. But I guess you could say Harry "unofficially" helped to raise Teddy, as well (the ending said Teddy would go to Harry's house for dinner several nights a week).

So I'm guessing Victoire is one of Ron's nieces. I had to reread that part like 5 times to fully grasp the family line. It's so hard when you hear the names so many time as one person, then to realize that the kid got the name too. Nothing wrong with passing it down... but jeez it makes it confusing.

Victoire is Bill and Fleur's daughter.

How did you know that??? the name or just that Bill is the oldest? cause I don't recall any one else being pregnant.

I noticed that, too. Poor Harry.

You're re-reading, right? I don't have my list in front of me, but at some point I realized that most (if not all) of Ron and Harry's Divination homework predictions came true eventually. They had just made them up on the fly without trying.

really?? think i might have to go back and read them again.

i didn't even notice that.

ok so anyone else excited that the new movie comes out in a couple of weeks - have you seen the previews??? looks good.

hope its better then 5 - i was disappointed that the longest book to date became the shortest movie. and they left out sooooo much
