Harry Potter Exhibition in Times Square - anyone been yet?

okay, were back!
The exhibit was AWESOME!!!! If you are a HP fan you will love the detail. Thank goodness i prepurchased tickets WITH a time slot of 11am. When we came out of the exhibit at 1:30 the line waiting with tickets was to the end of the block.
they do send you in in groups, it was crowded today. I think we are going to consider going back and take the girls out of school to do it so that we can really scrutinize the details and stuff. We did not do the audio guide, i did speak to a family afterwards and they said the audio guide is worth the extra $.
NO PHOTOS are allowed. I asked and it is a copyright issue. The staff member i was chatting with told me that yesterday they confiscated a camera, deleted about 60 photos and gave the camera back. There is no way to even try to sneak a snap, not that i was going to, but the people behind me stated they were going to. Not sure if they did or not. They have staff everywhere watching.
We did purchase the exhibition booklet in the gift shop area, well work it i think 16.99. They had allt he same souvie stuff that they have in WWoHP, plus a few different types of shirt (mostly with HP, the exhibition on them). Prices were fairly consistent with WWoHP too.
Any other questions, let me know i will try to help....oh yeah, they do have some cool large backdrop type posters (2 in the entrance to the DSM, and one by the food court) that are perfect for some photos with your own cameras.
If your a Potter fan i hope you can go!

HMag: I bought tickets today at Costco and plan on getting there early Friday. When I go to the will call window, that's when I will get the time slot, right?

Thanks for the heads up on the exhibition. I will get there early on Friday to try to get a good time slot, but I am preparing myself that it could (and likely will be) in the afternoon. There will be plenty to do in the area to keep me busy!

Did you do anything else while you were in NYC?

Hi again. Iam not sure about the will call for times, I bought thru dsm directly on line. My suggestion is to get there as soon as they open if you can. Let us know how you make out and most importantly, how you liked it

I watched the Discovery Times Square website closely today for when the time slots sold out. By 10:30, they were sold out until like 2:30. As long as I can get a time slot for Friday, we will be happy!

I hope we don't have trouble on a summer Friday (not a holiday one!)

I agree that the Pompeii thing sounds a bit hard for younger children. I had actually asked the DTS people if we should get a combo ticket (DS is 8 years old) and she said they think 12 and up are best suited for that.

Yes you go right to will call and they will give you the time- we went right in, didn't have to wait when we went but that was 2 weeks ago.

From the Discovery Times Facebook page--

We're opening even earlier tomorrow! From Thursday April 21st until Saturday April 23rd we will be opening at 9:00am!! Buy your tickets in advance and show up early to beat the lines!

I am going to be going next month, I'll have the New York pass does anybody know how that works with the time slots?

The primary issue with the Pompeii exhibit is the casts. What happened was that the pumice ash that had smothered the victims solidified, and then of course their remains decayed as remains do over the course of 1000 years, leaving a hollow body-shaped space in the hardened volcanic ash layer. The archaeologists who were excavating got the idea to pour plaster into the holes and then clear away the pumice. The result is very poignant, because these people were instantly buried alive -- you can see the expressions of terror on their faces, and many of their hands are positioned in a way that makes it clear that they were trying to claw out of the ash. Some examples of the casts: http://archive.fieldmuseum.org/pompeii/gallery_3.asp

I also found that if you go to the Discovery Times Square website and click through like you are going to buy tickets, you can see what times are already sold out for future dates!
