I'm drawing a blank on what to make for a family night watching the new Harry Potter movie. I wanted it to be themed to match the movie.
We have made butter beer before and it didn't go over real well:sick::rotfl:

Any ideas?

The butterbeer from WWoHP tastes like cream soda with butterscotch topping. IBC's cream soda (in the glass bottles) is a pretty good imitation even without the butterscotch topping. Pumpkin juice to me tastes like it could be imitated with canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices, honey, and apple juice.

I would make something English - bangers and mash or shepherd's pie, for example - and plenty of sweets, like pumpkin cakes, get some Twizzler pull & peel to be licorice wands, get a bowl of jelly beans for "Every Flavor Beans," maybe a cake in the shape of a Golden Snitch :-)

Traditional Fish and Chips, (you could probably fool your family by grabbing some take out on this) ;) Onion Soup, Fried Mushrooms, Shepard's Pie (generally anything an Irish restaurant or pub would offer). Also check the Universal board, you'll probably get a lot of ideas over there.

HTH!

We did butterbeer at a Harry Potter going away party and none of the kids would drink it after one said it was nasty:laughing: I love the treats link!

I was thinking shepards pie! Is it actually mentioned in the book? How could I forget the jelly beans?!!! Thankss!!!

Anything British would be good. Or else, here is a website which breaks down pretty much all the foods mentioned in the books (lots of choices here):

Thanks! That will help! I have never read the books. MY DD is a HP nut though!

I can't get my kids to eat fish:confused3 I should have thought of the Universal board! Thanks!

I believe Ron is a fan of both Shepherds and Steak & Kidney Pie in the books. That is what he is mentioned most often eating in the Great Hall.

What a fun idea!! You've already gotten great links but be sure to check out MuggleNet.. I believe they have a whole section devoted to recipes!

There's a Harry Potter cookbook that just came out. Maybe your library has it and you could do a whole meal from that?

The whole Kidney thing is grossing me out though;)

They did have a large meat at the table didin't they?

I just moved and haven't found the library yet. I'll have to put it on my list of to do's!

Thanks for the heads up on the release date which is tomorrow!!!:cheer2:

We have not seen it yet.

You're welcome! My kids are excited to see it even though 2 of them saw it in the theatres!

Pumpkin soup, served in individual pumpkins.

That would be cute!

I agree with the shepards pie, meat pies...I also remember seeing platters of chicken legs in earlier movies along with peas and mashed potatoes.

We just went to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and neither of my children were overly excited about butter beer. They did like the pumpkin fizz though. It was basically a cold drink made with mostly apple cider that had been mulled with pumpkin pie spices (there was probably a teaspoon of pumpkin in the whole batch. Then they put selzer in it making it fizzy and a little less sweet.

If you can get frog candy molds it would be easy to make chocolate frogs. Another candy they got a big kick out of was the "You-No-Poo" it had that on the label along with the phrase "It's the constipation sensation that's sweeping the nation!" It's from the magic/joke store that the Weasley twins open in book 6. The actual candies were green M&M's without the M&M insignia.

If you have a store that sells British candy, a lot of it is mentioned in the books. Also, as someone else has said, even though it wasn't in the movie there was a giant golden snitch cake in the 7th book.

Good luck! It sounds like a fun night. We're planning a big Harry Potter party this summer before the last movie comes out.

My fave traditional English food is toad in the hole. Its sausages in yorkshire pudding batter and we tend to eat it with mash.

Mmmmm

One of the other links had chocolate frogs from Trader Joes. I'm going tomorrow to see if they have those since I don't have a chocolate mold.
I loved the candy ideas! We are going to WWOHP this December and we are excited!:banana:

I have no clue what yorkshire pudding is:laughing: and is mash mashed potatoes?
