Harriet Miers withdraws nomination

The judicial activism of late, within any legitimate definition of the term, is all from the Right. Many weild the term without any firm understanding of its implications, but that is undeniable
Yep, you're absolutely right....Teri Schiavo, anyone?

Exactly. Well, Bush caved yet again to small group of narrow minded bullys. It says a lot about his character. Stand up and fight for your nomination! So now he will nominate a right wing activist to appease this group he is so afraid of, and the Country will be in turmoil while the conservatives try to push this one through. Nice going George, I'm still waiting for you to "unite" us!

And what happened to the "all nominations deserve an up or down vote" meme?
I said it before and I'll say it again...Hypocracy reigns supreme and America is watching!!

"A president is entitled to their choices".................. :rotfl2:

LOG and SS, please be good lefties and pass the popcorn. TIA.

my gut always was that these guys are so utterly machiavellian that the goal was to nominate her and have her be so inept that they'd get to nominate who they really wanted.

i still think gonzales has a shot.

and FTR this nomination was sunk by the conservatives not the dems. the dems could just watch as the right ate it's own.

please pass the popcorn and hold the butter! :cool1:

please nominate a hard-line conservative. pleasepleaseplease. The press & the desparate left will bash whoever it is, so might as well make it someone who will uphold the conservative ideals we re-elected bush for.

The Bush bashers are so giddy over the Miers fiasco, they likely can't see it coming.

Gosh, I thought only the Dems go with whatever way the wind is blowing...
:confused3
Ain't politics fun to watch? :rotfl2:

I know. It was quite amusing to watch even Anne Coulter in an uproar!

When is she not? Has there ever been anyone that feeds on hatred to the degree she does?

Wrong. The real fiasco is yet to come.

Useless political drivel rhetoric aside, Anne Coulter has always reminded me of the old lady that lives in the house that you never go to on Halloween.

Looks like the 2 abortion cases that are coming before the SCOTUS must be ruled on in November before O'Conner retires, so I'm thrilled asbout that! If Bush nominated Meirs as a ploy, knowing that her nomination would fail, as some have suggested, he screwed his Christian Conservative base on these cases big time.

So who's next? Bush has to know who he's going to nominate....possibly an old school Conservative like Maureen Mahoney? She has a pro business record, yet has taken quite a liberal stand on affirmitive action...

I don't know that it's hypocrisy so much as a combination of self-righteousness and Trotskyist ethics. They just believe they are right, so the ends always justify the means, and wil unthinkingly repeat any meme that is deemed effective without consideration as to what it means in principle. They don't believe in reciprocity or the "Golden Rule", because they believe they are correct, much like Trotskyists did. They disdain procedural niceties as weakness - all that matters are the ends, not the means

Which fiasco is that?

The ultra conservative activist George is going to nominate next to calm down the little right wing hornets nest he stirred up with Ms. Miers. If he caved in before the fight even began with Ms. Miers, he sure isn't going to throw a rock at the hornets again. This will polarize the Dems into not budging either. Filibuster? Thus; FIASCO.

I see it coming down pretty much just like that.

You know, I didn't hear the majority of whining coming from any Democrats over this nomination. The radical right tanked Miers all on their own.
