I'm looking for any advice / tips on your experiences with the Harmony Barbershop in the MK..... We are planning on taking our son there who will be 18 months old at the time for his first haircut. (he could really use it now... but we're going to hold out until September and make him wear baseball caps until then. ) Has anyone done this recently? is it as great as it appears to be? when is the best time to go? Do they open at rope drop? later? I heard they do not make appointments, so I'm trying to figure out what is the best time of day to go... (if there is a best time.) Of course we are trying to avoid waiting too long with an 18month old, and the rest of the family as well... Do they put your name on a list and tell you to come back later? Is it busier in the morning, and then possibly less crowded as the day progresses? or does it continue to be crowded all day and get worse? Maybe September is less crowded in general? (wishful thinkin'_)

I had both of my kids' first haircuts there (at the same time!). It was great. The prices are reasonable and the souveneirs they get are great (first haircut mickey ears, certificate). I think we went there right away when we got to the park. You are right in that there are no appointments. You pretty much just stand around and wait until it is your turn. It can also be a little hectic because there is no wait list (or there wasn't when we were there). So, it is up to everybody waiting to remember who was there first. Despite that, I would definitely make sure you go. If there is a long line when you get there, just come back later. We liked it so much we took our son there for a regular haircut our next trip.

Had my DD hair done thier last year. The 1st haircut souveniers are on a first come basis - I was told once they are gone for the day, thats it.

Would definatly arrive as early as you can - as it does get a very long queue, on most days that I noticed the queues where out the door (sep 08)

My older daughter got her 1st haircut there back in 2001. She was not quite
3. She is now almost 12. The pics and video of that day - as well as those
1st haircut ears are precious! We now (finally) have another daughter who just turned 2 and guess what? The purpose of our July vacation this year is so that baby sis can also have those same memories!

Now, back in 2001 - we went mid-day and there was no crowd. It looks like we better get there early this time!!!!

We took both boys in April and it was great. The barbers (two women) were fantastic with kids. My younger son is 4, but never had a formal haircut, we would do it ourselves, so he was very nervous and apprehensive. They were able to ease his fear and he had a great haircut. We went around 4:30, as they close at 5pm I think. Whoever is in the barber shop by 5 will be served. We waited for about 20 minutes, while they finsihed up two other kids. Wasn't bad. Eventhough my son was 4, and it was the end of the day, he still was given the ears and a certificate of bravery!

My other son, who was 7 1/2 at the time, and is quite reserved ended up opting for them to put red, white and blue paint in his hair! So he felt very comfortable there. He is looking forward to another haircut in August.

I got my DS's first haircut there and he actually turned 18 months while we were at Disney. He actually needed a haircut way before, but when I heard about this option, I had to do it. It was a great experience. We did have some issues with lines on two days, where we didn't feel like waiting for over an hour. So instead we just went there as soon as the park opened. The lady who cut his hair was wonderful and I just can't say enough good things about it. Here is getting his hair cut.

And here he is after with his ears.

It is something that every parent should do if possible.

I  Harmony Barber Shop! We took my DS there last year when he was in desperate need of a haircut (Mommy couldn't take it anymore!) and they were wonderful. DS decided to not get the sparkles or the colored gel, so I ended up getting the sparkles instead! We had such a good time that for our trip next week, both DS and DH will be getting their hair cut at Harmony!!! And you can bet I will make DH get the sparkles and gel!!! :rotfl:

One word of advice - stay away from Harmony when it's raining! We tried to get into Harmony one day when it was raining (not pouring, but steady), and the place was packed. We stopped by the next day and there was no line whatsoever. I think some people may duck in there to wait out the rain, but since there's no formal wait list, we had no idea who was there for a cut and who was avoiding the rain...

I believe their hours are 9-5. We did our youngest's first cut there and it was great. We have made it a tradition. This weekend, we told them that we were going to get haircuts and they immediately said "At Disney?"

I had to laugh at the fact that your little one is ready now. With my first, my MIL gave him his first haircut when I wasn't home. I was furious! With #2, his hair was so long he was starting to look like a little girl. My husband warned everyone in the family not to come near him with scissors, or face mama's wrath! :rotfl2:

And, I have tell you, our boys are 5 and 3 and the best haircuts they have ever had have come from Disney. We highly recommend it!!

BTW...they told us once that if the park is busy, they are slow. If the park is slow they are busy. Get there right at 9 and be the first in line. Have fun!!

CLARYCHE....:worship:Thanks for posting the pics! He is so handsome... September can't come fast enough for me.... My brother is teasing me that my son looks like a girl, but it's really important to me to do this, so I was hoping to get some positive feedback to make sure it's worth waiting for... And good advice about avoiding it if it's raining. I suppose we could walk by it on the way in the park and check out the wait.. if it's too long, then we'll come back, or try again... Of course I was hoping to do it early in the trip so he can look just as cute in all of our pictures..

Thanks, I think he is handsome too, but I might be a little bit bias. I understand your son looking like a girl, because people were starting to think the same thing about my DS. And it was amazing how many times he was called a little princess at Disney. So we were kinda upset that we didn't get it done the first day, but it's kinda cool that half of our pictures of him were before the haircut and half after...so it worked out well in the end. I hope you can hold out until September. Which is actually the same month when we got our son's haircut done.

DH and I are debating taking DD there for her first haircut in August. It's long enough now for a cut, but I think we can hold off.

Can anyone tell me roughly how much it costs (so I can add it to the budget)?

Thanks!

From what I've read... it's a real bargain... about $12 + tip... We'll find out for sure in September, but even if they raise the price a little,, I still think it's reasonable... especially for Disney, where they could charge almost anything, and people would still pay.

I took my girls there last week to get the colored gel and sparkles. It was 7.50 for just that. The adult haircuts were $17, I think the kids were $13 or $14 maybe?

It was sunny when we got there (around 10 AM), but started raining while we were there. We had to wait at least an hour, if not a little longer. We were actually going to leave but once the rain started, we just decided to wait it out. One family in front of us had 3 kids getting cuts, and dad got his done, too.
Then the next family right before us had 2 kids and dad.

There is not a sign in sheet, so if you leave, you do lose your spot. And you may want to ask the people in front of you how many people they have, because we only thought we had 3 kids before us, but it ended up being 7 people! :scared1: I think one parent waited with just one or two kids, and the others went off to get a ride in, and we also had no idea the dads wanted a cut, too!

In Sept of 2007, the cost was 14 bucks and that included tax. And of course that includes the haircut, the certificate and the ears. Well worth it.

My tip is to go there first thing. We got to the MK at rope drop and went straight to the barbershop when others were headed for rides. But hey we were first in line and it was so much better than waiting in line for an hour or more.

My biggest child - my DH - has been getting his haircut there every trip for years by Michel. The adult haircut is $17 and a child haircut is $12 + tip. The Mickey "pixie dust" and gel artwork is an added bonus. There is always a line when the park first opens but Michel always tells us to come back around parade time and it works every time. No line. First haircuts get the ears and a certificate and they will give you back curls/hair for the baby books. They do a great job and it is one of the great WDW secrets!

We got the baby's first haircut last Wednesday, and it costs $14 even, but that includes the ears! Great deal, and cute certificate, too!
We waited maybe 45 minutes, and the shop sits right by where the parade starts, so if you're lucky, you can see that while you wait. :cheer2:

Thank you... I can't wait... I am so looking forward to this. I will try to go early, but if the line is long, then maybe around parade time... It sounds like it's worth the wait. How many "barbers" do they have at one time?
