Day 9 – Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Well they had been saying for a couple of days that the weather was about to change and we all thought “Yeah Right!” but boy were they right, we got up this morning and went outside and it was FREEZING!! I mean literally like being back home! The sun was still shining and it was a beautiful day but the car was telling us that it was 42 degrees!!!

My mom still wasn’t feeling that well and she decided that she and dad were going to stay at the villa and chill out and relax for the day, I took my “cell phone” out with me so that I could text them to make sure that they were ok throughout the day.

We had decided on Islands of Adventure for the day, luckily being from the UK and this being January we had come prepared, the kids and I all had our big winter coats, Matt didn’t though as he hardly ever wears a coat unless there is snow on the ground. Terry and Lou were meeting up with us at the park as I think they were going to grab some breakfast or something somewhere else first. When we got to the park Lou and Tez were waiting under the Hulk Ride and the wind was bitter, we saw that the mobile vendors were selling something different to the usual chilled drinks and popcorn…………….wooly gloves and hot chocolate! Yay! We went off and bought ourselves a lovely pair of fluffy gloves for $5 – what a bargain and then the boys went off to get in line for the Hulk, we planned to do the baby swap so Lou and I went to Suess Landing and took the kids on the Carosuessel, The Trolley Ride and something else that I can’t remember at the moment.

We went back to the Hulk after about 50 minutes to find that the boys had already ridden it and we had missed the baby swap, I went back up the exit with Matt and we explained that I had gotten carried away with the toddlers on the Seuss rides and they put us on the next train. Very nice of them! A big thumbs up for the IOA CMs!

We then all went round to the Suess Landing Area and all rode the Cat in the Hat which Harley loved! He was giggleing so much it was great! Shelby looked a little perturbed by it all but I think she liked it. Next it was off to the Trolley Ride again, we were advised by the CM to go up the exit and get Shelby measured, then one of us could ride with her while the other waited with Harley as he wasn’t quite big enough to get on the ride. They measured her and she was just about right for the ride! We got on twice and Shelby had ridden her first roller coaster – the great thing about this is that it’s up in the air and the views of the whole park are great – what’s not so good is when it breaks down or they stop it to put a wheel chair user on, we were stopped in the most exposed area of the ride and the wind was cutting though us like a knife – Matt was frozen – he of the “I’m too cool to wear a coat “ philosophy! Ha ha
Gotta keep warm

After completeing Seuss Landing we went off to Super Hero Island and started to wait in line for Spiderman, again we were baby swapping, Lou doesn’t like rides so she waited in the Baby swap room with me, and Matt and Terry went to que up in the single riders line, just as they were about to get on after waiting in line the ride broke down. They said to wait a few minutes but it was clear that the ride wasn’t going to come back online anytime soon so we went off to wander round the park.

After a quick go on Dr Doom’s Fear Fall we went through to the Toon Island part. Lou was in her element as she loves Betty Boop! We spend a while in the shops here and decide that we are not going on the rapids or the log flume thingy today as it’s too cold, we decide that we can pop back another day if need be – using our Orlando Flex Ticket.

We went to see what was going on at Fire and Ice, the line said it was a 60 minute wait but we only waited about 25 minutes, Terry and Lou waited with the kids. We love this ride, especially the part where they nearly touch – I hope that the kids like this kind of thing when they are bigger! We swap and Terry has his go with Matt while I am with Lou and the kids, we sit and watch the talking tree for a bit.

I think we watched the Sinbad show next but Harley was asleep in his buggy and Shelby didn’t like the loud bangs so I left the gang watching while I sat with the kids outside. It was a little warmer now but not much.

We tried to get Shelby to grow so that she could go on the Unicorn – but as you can see she wasn’t quite up for the challenge! Never mind, maybe next time.

We pop into Jurassic Park and grab some food, I have chicken strips, Matt has a burger and Shelby wanted a hotdog, we then find that they don’t do hot dogs in this resteraunt so I have to run back down the hill with Shelby in her buggy to the kiosk that sells Hot Dogs with a bag of Lays for $6!!!!!!!!! Oh well anything for a quiet life. Harley has taken very well to the Gerber Jars that we had bought from Walmart so he had a Pork and Apple dinner and rice pudding for afters, he loves his food so he also gnawed on a couple of fries from our meals. The food was lovely and I got my honey sauce fix for the day!
There’s something behind you!!!

We decided to go back to Suess Landing so that the kids could ride everything there again, as secretly we all really loved that part of the park. We got brownies, a snowman biscuit and a few other yummy treats and then it was about time to go home.

I text my mom and dad to see how they were getting on and they said that they had a nice day of napping and relaxing, my dad was enjoying the car channel on the TV and my mom had also done some Cross Stitch.

Terry and Lou went to Walmart on the way home while we went to KFC to get dinner, the service was AWFUL and we waited 55 minutes to receive our food, people were complaining left right and centre, never mind that I had two grumpy, hungry and tired babies in the car – I rang Mom to tell her what the delay was and my dad was threatening to make himself egg on toast as by this time it was 9pm or so!

We got home and had our KFC which was yummy and then played the Pixar Edition of Monopoly. Bed was at about 11pm tonight in prepareation for day 10 which was a shopping day.

Sounds like a great day.
Seems funny seeing your pics and your wearing coats :rotfl:

winter woolies on orlando - we had that one year as well.

We have been in January before and had to have a Hot chocolate while watching Shamu at Sea World, there was a thin frost on the car one morning then too! :scared1:

Shame it was so cold. Hope your mum gets better quickly.

your photos with your coats on remind me our autumn trips to Chessington and Thorpe Park.

Mark is the same about wearing a coat, fleeces but not coats!

You seem to pack a lot of rides in on your day to IoA.

Thanks for sharing

Lovely day, I drank loads of hot chocolate there in December even on the 80 degrees plus days. We did try the water rides at IoA (love them in the summer), on a boiling hot day but the water was freezing especially on the Popeye ride. So I would be careful when you go this time even if it is hot the water is not.:goodvibes
