I have been using Lemi Shine. Lemi Shine, made by Envirocon Technologies, is an automatic dishwasher additive used to treat problems caused by hard water. It is a bit expensive. I was wondering if anyone know where I can get this cheaper than $3.29 a bottle or in bulk size?

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I would like to know also! I am so sick of this hard water and paying 3.29 for a small bottle!

I use vinegar....plain white vinegar at $1.59 a gallon...and put it in the dishwasher at the beginning. It cleaned up the dishes and that gunky stuff on the dishwasher door as well.

It's all I ever used in the dishwasher with the soap for 2 years until we got a water softner.

Try a cup of vinegar or two for each load. Put it in as you close the door and start the cycle.

Good luck!

A WaterBoss water softener is only a few hundred bucks, and it will also remove the problems in your laundry, and in your shower, and in your drinking water. . . Why pay for chemicals that only do part of the job, when you can get a machine to take care of all of it?

At select Costco stores & you can purchase it by the case or 5lb bucket on their website.

Hope this helps!

really? "only" a few hundred? :lmao: and the plumber to put it in? and the salt?

I think you can just use citric acid (I think that is what Lemi Shine basically is).

YEP Vinegar works I use it in the jet dry dispenser on dishwasher an every couple weeks add maybe a cup to get the nasty lime off the door.

Please don't laugh at me, but the vinger, do you just drop in anywhere before you close the door? just a cup?:confused3

If you put it in the rinse area, do you not put in more soap? Our dishwasher has to areas, and I am just a little confused? we normally put soap in one and Lemi SHine in the other one??

Okay, maybe I'm silly, but what is hard water?

My dishwasher has 2 spots. I put the Cascade tablet in the soap dispenser and then in the rinse aid dispenser (mine has a screw off top) I pout in vinegar until it overflows. Screw the top back on and run the dishwasher.

Thanks so much for the information! do you not put the jet dry in? or do you do both?

While researching an answer for this myself last year, someone recommended a frugal substitute for Lemi shine. Just add a packet of UNsweetened lemon koolaid powder to the water and run the dishwasher empty without soap. It's really just citric acid, but be sure to use the unsweetened type. Only about .20 :)

Tang drink mix used to work great on ours, but the composition of our well water must have changed because it did not take the yellow out when I tried it recently. I'm going to try the white vinegar tonight.
