Hard to find your way around ships?

We've only been on one other DCL and it was the Magic. My kids (10, 13) loved that they learned their way around within the first couple of days. They could go to a movie by themselves, go get ice cream, etc. and we didn't need to worry about them. If we go on the Fantasy next - how much harder is it to learn your way around the ship? Thanks!

I have very little sense of direction and I don't seem to have a problem on the ships. ;) I will say the little deck plans on the walls at the landing of each floor do help me from time to time, but in general I feel the ships are easy to navigate.

The Dream and Fantasy have a similar layout to the Magic and Wonder: restaurants on decks 2-4, pools & Cabanas & ice cream & snack places & drink station on second to top deck, Palo/Remy on top deck, atrium in the middle, aft/forward/mid-ship elevator lobbies, theatres on 4/5 with shops and snack bar nearby, most lounges in a separate area which are limited to over 18 after 9 pm, Guest Services in main atrium. The ships are bigger, obviously, but the placement of many things is somewhat analogous to the smaller ships. It doesn't take too long to figure out where you're going.

Easy if you look at the list of locations by the elevators. Only issue was figuring out how to get to Palo because we couldn't access I think from the deck that was listed on the map

Navigating Fantasy and Dream is simple. Just remember your basic directions Forward, Aft, Port and Starboard. To remember which side is port, I remember that "left" has 4 letters and so does "port". Works for me, anyway! But you can also get clues from around you. In the hallways, the carpeting has a map. If the map is right side up, your walking forward, if it's upside down, you're walking aft. Also pay attention to the fish extenders. Staterooms on the starboard side have a seahorse, the port side rooms have a fish.

I would say Fantasy is similar, just longer distances between things. The only time I got confused was on the deck with the pools, I'd forget which end had which stuff (like where is the drink station), and I am absolutely terrible with directions and finding my way around.

Also the way to remember this: "St"arfish for "St"arboard and fish has four letters as does port. Also, starboard and port are defined as right and left as you are facing forward. However, I still try to annoy my husband by calling it the pointy end and blunt end instead of forward and aft.

Ha. Pointy is good, maybe I'll teach my kids that.

I was told that the terms port and starboard came from the days when sailors rowed the boats. Since most rowers were right-handed, the boat would dock against the left side (facing forward) of the boat because the paddles would be on the "right" side. So that's why Port is the left side.

The biggest difference layout wise IMO is that the adult only venues are forward on the Magic class and aft on the Dream class, otherwise they are very similar.

In saying that, I can navigate the Magic piece of cake but my partner gets confused easily - whilst it's the reverse when navigating the Dream/Fantasy :)

I have no problems at all. I only have 1 and that is a I going forward or aft? It seems to only confuse me on deck and I don't know why. I just look at the funnels for assurance. It never affects me on stateroom decks or lower ones, just outdoor decks.
