Maybe it is the ultimate collection, once you stop choking over the price tag :earboy2:

$2,500.00.....hmmmm......thinking.....thinking.....thinking....Nope, don't think so.... :3dglasses

Ah, but if purchased separately, those things cost over $3000 :earseek:

(which is why I don't own any of them - I can't even bring myself to pay $100 for a season of ST:TNG...)

Yeah.....I'll have ALL of the seasons of TNG on DVD....when I win the lottery!

Only problem is a die-hard Star Trek fan (like my DH) would already have all the components. He started buying the boxed sets as soon as they came out. I think he only has one more season to buy of Enterprise and then he has them all.

They are kind enough to offer free shipping.

Yup...got them all!! Generally the day they come out... I know it is a sick addiction.... :rotfl2:

Fascinating. :::insert Spock-with-arched-eyebrow-smilie:::

It's much more economical to be a Star Wars fan. 6 movies and that's it, unless you include the two Ewok live action TV specials and the Droids cartoon from years ago and the Star Wars: Clone Wars series from the Cartoon Network.* :p

* -- I didn't mention the Christmas Special from the 1970s that had Jefferson Starship because I think even Lucasfilm would like to forget that "what were they thinking?" moment.

Similar thing here. Only difference is that I learned that they will do this kind of discounting once the full series is released. Because of that I haven't got any Enterprise sets yet and I paid less for the original series as well.

Kinda sucks that they screw the real fan who buys them as they go, but this is Paramount we are talking about.

YIKES! $2500!!! I love me some Jean-Luc and Data, but good heavens! :faint: DH and I don't have cable in our house and over the last few weeks we have been renting Star Trek:TNG from Hollywood Video. We're on Season 4 disc 4 at the moment. I'll just continue renting til I see all the seasons. They don't have season 7 at the moment but they say that could change anytime. I wouldn't purchase that set even if I wanted to as TNG was the ONLY one DH and I really enjoyed.

Ahhhh but as Zagnorch from Terra in the Sol System says (and he hates to break the news to us) it might not TRULY be the ultimate. It helps if you read it like the comic store guy from The Simpsons. :rotfl:

... but this collection won't truly be THE ultimate until they release the Star Trek animated series on DVD. Which, rumor has it, is slated to hit the shelves some time in 2006.

Besides, isn't "ultimate" a subjective term in this case? One trekkie's idea of the "ultimate" Star Trek DVD collection is not likely to be the same as that of another trekkie. Take me for instance: my idea of the ULTIMATE Star Trek DVD collection consists of the original series, the cartoon show, NextGen, and DS9, along with the second through ninth motion pictures. Everything else-- Voyager, Enterprise, The Motion(less) Picture, and Nemesis-- can take a hike as far as I'm concerned.

Upon further reflection, however (and after doin' some number-crunching), I've found that you'd still get a pretty danged good deal outta this if ya keep what'cha want, and re-sell the stuff ya don't care for on Amazon Marketplace™. Just be aware that they take $1.00 plus a 15% cut of the askin' price if it sells. And they don't always give ya adequate compensation for shipping and handling charges.

So maybe this really IS the ultimate collection after all?

I remember all those live action TV specials but I have only seen a couple of the cartoons....

I was a ST fan when the original series came out (I was a kid)....STNG is our favorite series. We had recorded alot of TNG on tapes when the show was on the air but I would really like to have the DVDs of all the seasons. I can't justify the cost of the set (of just that one series) to DH, tho' :guilty:

:earseek: :earseek:

I like to surprise my husband with something like this, but this is really too expensive! I can't even bring myself to spend the $350 on the complete Babylon 5 series.

And next year they will release the Deluxe Ultimate Edition complete with all new commentary from some heretofore unknown contributor to the Star Trek ark. No wait. It will be the special HDTV version. That's it. Throw all your old DVDs away and buy the all new yet-to-be-announced HDTV version.

Actually it's possible they may not release TOS, TNG, and DS9 in the next format. Full screen TV will not benefit much from HD encoding and Trek fans are smart enough to know that. They know the market is saturated.

The movies on the other hand. Probably at two double dips on each movie on HD-DVD. And people will buy, the movies will defintely be improved with technology. ST IV looks pretty bad, even on the newer 2 disc version.

I think I'll go up to Capitol Hill and make friends with Senator Gregg. Maybe he'd buy me that with his lottery winnings.
