What are the three or four decent hotels right across the street on Harbor?

My birthday is next September 3rd and me and the lady are planning on staying next to the resort for the night so we can play the day of and day after in the parks. We were planning on the Grand Californian but it is going to be about $311 for the weekday night. We are thinking instead of using that money on the room (which I really want to do) we could stay across the street and use some of that money for the Segway tour instead.

Any opinions, insights, experiences or ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

The ones most often mentioned and prefered around here are:

Tropicana
BW Park Place Inn
Camelot
Desert Inn & Suites

Just so I'm clear, the only reason I did not mention my favorite (the HoJo), is because you specifically asked for hotels directly across on Harbor, and the ones I listed are just that.

Ive stayed at Hojo's, Fairmont, ramada (cheaper one), Anaheim Plaza (cheaper one), and Camelot. I liked Fairfield the most. Im not sure why really, I just did, so ive stayed there a few times since. Its still in the same category as all the other hotels mentioned below basically and none of the hotels are really stellar. Thin walls and so on. The hilton at the end of California is really nice but further away. Paradise Pier is also a nice option usually significantly cheaper than GCH.

I would definitely look into the Howard Johnson. I had a great stay there and as a matter of fact they have their own info/bulletin board

Also, I've heard nothing but good things about Candy Cane, but my first recommendation would be the HoJo. Both HJ and CC are within walking distance!

Thanks everyone! My lady lives in Costa Mesa, not far from DLR but we want to be close so we can do the Segway Tour without having to drive up the road for 20 minutes.

It is too bad there is not an Embassy Suites right there, they have a killer breakfast bar!

The three with consistently the best reviews are Tropicanna, BWPPI and Camelot. I can personally vouch for Tropicanna although we preferred Carousel which is right next door (there have been some bad reviews of late though).

I just stayed at the Candy Cane and it was a really easy and pretty walk. It's on the same side of Harbor as Disneyland. They have their own shuttle that runs like clockwork too.

you're bday is september 3rd? im sept 4th! haha:goodvibes

and im going through the same thing..trying to find a good place to stay. i would love to stay at GCH or a disney hotel, but i just feel like i could use that extra money for something at DL (maybe a nice dinner or something..) but im considering DLH.

ive stayed at the ramada...it was a VERY quick walk, which was really nice, especially with a baby.the room was a little small, but if its just you and your lady it should be good.
ive also stayed at the hilton....the hotel was really nice, it had a starbucks inside and a few restaraunts and bars, gift shops, etc. the only thing was that the rooms were not that great. they were kinda old and small, but ok i guess. i was just expecting more from what the rest of the hotel looked like. i would stay there again for sure, but you will need to take a shuttle to DL b/c its too far of a walk.

Another vote for Fairfield. It seemed like a motel/hotel sort of thing with the parking the way it is but it has a Pizza Hut Express inside, ok gift shop, McDonalds right outside the lot and the walk is tolerable.

Best Western Park Place looks dirty to me as well as the ones that are right across the street. Do Fairfield or HOJO. Check tripadvisor for photos on both.

I recently stayed at the Hilton across the street and I don't recommend it right now. They are undergoing renovations right now and everything is closed off and dirty. Plus they nickel and dime you for everything, $15/day parking, $12.95/night for Wifi. The Candy Cane or Hojo's are probably your safest bet :)

There is an ES south of Katella, but it's about a mile and a third from the park. You could take resort transit if you really want to stay there. Their breakfasts are awesome!

I have stayed at: Best Western Park Place Inn, BW Anaheim Inn, Desert Inn and suites and Anaheim Plaza. All are very acceptable. The Anaheim Plaza has a huge pooll, BWPPI has a pretty good breakfast. All about the same honestly. I would pick by price IMO.

Here I go, tooting the HoJo horn again. BECAUSE I just looked, and the Entertainment rate is available the 1st-4th. So you could get a deluxe, Disney-facing, balcony room with fridge and microwave, for $74 a night. Here's the website that tells you about the Ent rate: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14

Somebody else just reported that they were able to get a 2008 Ent. card on e-bay for free with $3.00 shipping. Such a deal! (they're cheap because they expire Nov. 1, but that's the one you'd need for September!) You don't need it to book, just when you check in. So you could go ahead and book right now. If you do, be sure to call the hotel directly, not the 1-800 line, and ask for IN HOUSE reservations. You might also ask to speak to Lorealle; she's very helpful; but they all are.

Hope that helps! Have a great trip! :goodvibes

How funny - I'm the 6th! I knew I liked you from your wedding thread Princess P! Now I know why!

Our friends always get the BWPPI or the Park Vue Inn when they decide they don't want to drive home and make a weekend out of a day. They have been very pleased with both of those choices.

Us, we use DVC points - but normally, we just go home. :drive:

Let me fill in the gap...My birthday is Sept 5th! There's a bunch of us Sept babies here!

We always stay at Park Vue Inn and have been very happy. Can't beat the location!

Hey, thanks everyone! Is there any question we can't solve or address with all the expertise here on Dis?

We made reservations at the BW for $87 for two nights ($102 per night with 15% tax) but now we are thinking we might change to HoJo.

Does Hojo have wi-fi included? Parking?

September babies! Woot!

Do we have a September 6th out there to keep the birthday rally going?

HoJo has free parking and free WiFi.

My birthday is September 13th. And no, I wasn't born on a Friday, thank yew so very much. ;)

Guess you missed my note a few posts up! I'm the 6th! I've always had a batch of friends with birthdays that were consecutive to mine, so I'm not surprised at all of us here in this thread! Great minds and horoscopes think alike!

I should be around the parks that weekend, too!

Awesome! Virgo power! It looks like a few of us will be in the parks for our early September birthdays. Usually my B-day on the 3rd lands on Labor Day weekend but this time it will bleed into the weekdays... good for me, I can stretch out the good times a bit!

September 7th anyone? Hey for all you early September babies, here is a little food for thought. I once knew a girl who had the same birthday as me, day and year and she told me that her mother told her that she was conceived on Thanksgiving. Think about it, 9 months and change... Yes I was creeped out too (like you are right now) but it is kinda funny... you were very possibly a Thanksgiving holiday love child!

Have a turkey leg!:rotfl: :rotfl2:
