We always seem to be debating the cost effectiveness of being a DVC member on this site and I must admit I was skeptical before I joined in 2003 but I’ll tell ya what, all I need to do is see my daughters face and remember all of the memories from our last trip and it makes it all worth it. Big rooms, full kitchens on Disney property, who could want more? We go every year for my daughter’s birthday in July, ever since she was 3 and she is 8 now. It’s usually the whole family who come down with us. They just pay airfare and tickets and they’ve got a place to stay. This past October just I and my daughter went down to Disney for MNSSHP and had an absolute blast. I can’t put a price on that. If you can buy in to DVC, do it! The memories alone take care of the monetary worries. :thumbsup2

I totally agree. This way I make sure I take at least one great vaction a year. :thumbsup2

And it works for all stages of life!!! We live so far from family and friends, and DVC has provided the settings for wonderful get togethers, so far 1 85th birthday gathering, another 80th coming up as well as DGC's first WDW visit ever!!!! We all travel, and then relax, meals are shared, no one is the host/hostess in the sense of doing all of the work, housecleaning etc.

I love my dvc. It was never about the money. It's about the resorts on Disney property. If it was about money, everyone would stay offsite.

Great post Pam & Joe!
Can't put a price on happiness :)
Memories are priceless :cloud9:
Think about this, if heaven forbid we all lost our money, all we would have would be memories
(sorry if that sounded depressing, it was supposed to sound life affirming :rotfl: )

We have not gone as members yet, however, we have been so often you are absolutely right. Priceless memories are made at Disney. We started going as a family in 2001 with our DD then 4 now 9 and it is just amazing. I hope when we are gone she can look back and recall all the magicall times we had as a family. Now onto the member vacations:yay:

How right you are!!! Even when there are no kids, we enjoy taking family and friends to our "home away from home" and it is always a special time for everyone. This year, our DS moved far away, so our WDW trip for the New Year was a family reunion of sorts, with all of us together for the first time in a year. I can see this becoming a regular occurance now.

Well said!! Just making the effort to build memories that build relationships is priceless!! And it doesn't hurt that all that figuring can help justify what you've decided!

I have to agree with the post, it was never about the money. I can not put a value on my memories. :cool1:

I'm not saying I disagree, because I think DVC is a great option for many people. However, it is easily possible to enjoy all of the things you speak of without being a DVC member or by only owning a few token points. This just goes to show how this is such an emotional purchase for many people.

I posted another thread asking for help deciding on buying into DVC. After that my wife and I sat and discussed.......

we are paying 2867 for CRB with 7 day hopper and dining.
DVC 160pts about 2500/ year for 10 + 1 air + 3 annuals + food = 4k
We know it is an investment and easily sell/rent(able) but we can't go into it easily.

We love the idea of dvc and the community it has but I can't say the long term investment is wise for us. I have a good friend who goes every year and it works for him and his family. We will still love WDW and the magic but......

Peace :rotfl2:

I love the IDEA of owning, but right now I'm feeling pretty stressed because all the others (non-DVC) are booking at Wilderness for Christmas 2006, & we are locked into our home resort of Beach Club because of the booking window restrictions. I actually miss the freedom of resort choice....

Why stress? simply play the game. Call day by day and wait list day by day to autoconfirm. As for the other issue, non members aren't booking unless through CRO. Members may be booking and renting out, but that's their choice and right. This is not directed at you as you seem to have a good attitude about the issue unless I read your post wrong. While it may not be a popular stance on this board, I'd put a renter from an owner booking at a home resort as coming ahead of other DVC owners trying to book at the 7 month window.

I see your point, Dean, & I do understand why owners are giving the preferred booking, and yet...DVC CAN lock you into a particular resort (unless you're able to travel during lowest turn-out times, or don't want Xmas.) As I said, I love being an owner, but for ex., regret never having stayed at Poly, & now probably never will (altho I ALMOST succumbed this time cuz the others wanted it, till I came to my senses). And now, trying to all stay together (15+ family members, all non-DVC'ers), they're all booking at both my home BCV, in addition to VWL, which is costing them an additional $200 deposit, until I know for sure in May (7 mo window) if I can get into VWL. Don't mean to sound like a cry-baby, or ungrateful for what I have, but it's somewhat simpler (albeit more $$$) for them....Marie
