HAPPY to do a review of Jikos - 3/22/08

Sorry to have been away for so long....I had to take an unexpected trip to the West Coast.

You see, "my boys" began imbibbing a bit TOO much during cocktail hours and, well....one thing led to another and to make a long story longer....

An "intervention" was in order .....and a how shall we say a rather "forced vacation" from the booze....

I spent the last 90 days in California visiting the boys and being hosted by my pal Ronald in his house.

Finally! An update, and I've been dying to hear about Jiko, since I'm still on the fence about eating there or not.

Finally after the boys "90 days" in California, I bid farwell to their "hosts" and brought them home.

I've locked up the booze, put fresh linens :laundy: :laundy: on the bed and put the boys to bed for the evening.

Tomorrow, back to reality and I'll get back to our review of Jikos!

So after all this time, where do we catch up? After I "captured" another 15 minutes of fame with the boys and they began with their cocktails that Nassier delivered to the table while the paparazzi gathers with us at the Cooking place.

After purusing the menu we decided that it is ALWAYS best to leave the choices to the chefs. So we asked for the Jiko Cheese Selection and requested that the rest of the menu be chosen by the Chef and they should send us whatever they are most proud of.

Jiko's Manager extraordinaire, Jeremy returns in a flash with our cheese offering.

We spoke with Jeremy at length regarding the cheese offerings, and were WONDERFULLY surprised that the cheese was at room temperature, which allows all the subtle nuisances to come forth. Unlike Bistro de Paris where the cheese was ice cold.

Alas, we shall have to come back to the actual names of the cheeses in a bit, after I consult with the K-Man, as my mind is not as sharp as it used to be (or maybe it was the cocktails I enjoyed that evening...one will never know..)

After we liesurely enjoyed our cheeses, Nassier returned quite promptly to retrieve the dishes before Jeremy returned with our second offering of the evening.

Lamb "Patis"

pulled lamb rolled in phyllo, with mint-cilantro chutney

This is not your grandpa's pulled pork recipe, no sir!

These bite size morsels (in my case 2 bites, as I don't have as big a mouth as Mister Disney) where crispy and spicy. The mint-cilantro chutney was an interesting addition, although the K-Man didn't try the chutney as he dislikes cilantro.

We skipped the micro greens on the plate...but they sure did look nice and fresh.

Everything is better with cheese! When I first saw the lamb dish I thought they were slices of bones you were going to eat the stuffing from:rolleyes2 . I was very glad to hear it was phyllo:)

Hello our little Blue Friend. How many times have you been told ... what goes on at the Manor ... stays at the Manor! A word to the wise, houses have been dropped on little people for less. :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Ain't nothin' wrong with a "minor tune-up" every now and then. And now that we're dry as the Arizona Desert, I think it's cocktail hour at the Manor ... can't you hear Our Lady of the Manor out on the veranda clinking her empty glass?

Interesting that you should mention that....while we were in Atlanta on a business trip in June, we actually DID eat roasted bone marrow and it was DELISH! They serve it with toast and a jam / chutney.

We had it at a wonderful place called Rathbun's mmmm....good!

You just had to beat me to the Jiko cheese plate, didn't ya? :rotfl2: I think ours had a few different cheeses than yours...and I was also very happy and totally shocked that they actually served the cheese plate room temperature! :thumbsup2 Mine review will be up tonight.

FTR---I love love love marrow smeared on bread!

Cilantro is the best herb ever!!!
