Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Jewish New Year. It begins the High Holy days marked by Rosh Hashanah at one end, the New Year, and twelve days later Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. During these twelve days, we are to reflect upon our past year's actions and make amends (atone) for the things we have done wrong. We also endeavor to do better this year.

I am half Jewish, but a practicing Catholic, so I may have a thing or two wrong or slightly misinterpreted, but that's how I remember the rabbi teaching us in Hebrew School.

Yes Happy New Year!

My wife is Jewish and after three years I am still just getting the lingo down. Last year at temple people were saying what sounds like "Good Yuntiff" which is a yidish version of Yom Tov.....so I asked my wife, why is everyone telling me "Good Tofu". Oh well this gentile has a lot to learn. But have a happy and sweet new year! And Good Tofu to you all!

Love that story! You'll get the lingo - after 16 years together my husband knows the right things to say and when to say them - most of the time. It's not always easy, but if your wife is at all like me - she appreciates the effort!

You really do that? I'm the weird one here, I cannot stand apples dipped in honey so I just eat my apples plain while everyone else dips.

I love the fall--Rosh HaShannah, Yom Kippur, and then Sukkot. Hearing the Shofar give me chills.
