As I scrub my kitchen clean and cook soup to the tunes of "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow," I realized I almost forgot to wish all DISraelites a wonderful, blessed Passover.

(I should get rid of that toast down there...)

Wait! It starts tonight? I thought it starts tomorrow night? Is there any way to justify pizza?

Whew! My department 'won' a pizza party at work, and it's tomorrow! I thought I was going to have to bring in a box of matzoh and transfer all the toppings! Thanks, challer!

Time for Gefilte Fish and the great debate (hard or soft matzoh balls).

Happy Passover all.

Wahhh! I miss my mother's brownies! No, I don't bake - and my sister apparently thinks that when she bought the house, it came with all the contents. Recipe books, pots & pans... but does she ever offer to make a batch of brownies? Or some macaroons? Or a cheesecake? Mom's famous fruitcake? Noooooo. But just TRY asking for the springform pan.... :teeth: "I don't know where it is". Or the cookbook "It's packed away somewhere". Or the "don't worry, you can have it when you're ready" soon-to-be-antique bedroom set... :rotfl2: but I digress.

so how were the donuts??
no fair posting stuff like that on facebook - i was drooling all over my keyboard :goodvibes

so i'm still cleaning - i would have been done by now, but i had to make a late night run down to tel aviv tonight to hand over posters for chani's performance on april 10th..
here's the video invitation for when you take a break from all that cleaning...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kka1cD7AXA

by the way, tel aviv is really cool at 11 pm - the place is hopping down by rothschild and herzl street...haven't been there in years at this hour....incredible all the cafes and clubs....zillions of people strolling the boulevard....really cool...sort of reminds me of rush street in chicago, but much nicer...

anyway...back to cleaning ....(can you tell, i'm an invitee tomorrow night....otherwise i'd be tearing my hair out)...

I used to make Passover rolls for my ex's aunt. She was not able to handle the still dough any more and she said mine were fantastic. Made me glow, as I was a "Jew by marriage". No longer married to my Jewish husband, he is now Baptist.

I really miss a good family seder.

Happy Passover!

Didn't hit the kosher Dunkin' Donuts today - the kids preferred going out for pancakes. I'll do that tomorrow morning on the way to work. (By the way, I find the donuts overrated, but the chocolate chunk cookies... mmmm...)

Nice to be invited out for the seder, and then not have to think about the second seder. Chag kasher v'sameach.

chocolate chunk cookies???  my weakness (or one of them).
actually, pretty much anything with chocolate will do..

yup...invitee and no 2nd seder....
but i wouldn't mind the 2nd one, as the 1st one is sooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun!!!! (brother in law, the philosophy professor runs it.....THE best seder in the whole wide world...)

enjoy your donuts/cookies tomorrow!! (we'll have kosher mcdonalds for lunch on pesach rolls - tradition - the only time all year we go to mcdonalds...erev pesach - got to fill up as dinner isn't going to be for a VERY long time...

chag kasher v'sameach!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Anyone have a recipe for a kosher for passover apple kugal? I used to make one that used a whole box of matza, but I can't find the recipe card... oh well.

Happy Passover!

Happy Passover!

I just googled, and came up with this...

I've never tried a passover Apple Kugel, just may have to. :)

4 large apples, Granny Smith or any tart apple, cored and cut into medium dice
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
6 plain matzohs
8 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter or margarine, melted
1 cup golden raisins
1 cup dried apricots, medium, chopped
4 tablespoons butter or margarine, cut into small pieces, for casserole topping

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Toss the apples with the brown sugar and orange juice, set aside in a medium bowl.
3. Break the matzoh into 2- to 3-inch pieces and soak in 1 cup of warm water until soft but not mushy. Set aside.
4. While the matzoh soaks, beat the eggs with a wire whisk in a large bowl until blended. Add the salt, sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, raisins, and apricots.
5. Squeeze the liquid from the softened matzoh and add the matzoh to the egg mixture with the apples. Stir the kugel well and pour into a lightly greased 2 1/2-quart casserole dish or a 10x14-inch pan. Dot the top of the kugel with the 4 tablespoons of butter.
6. Bake the kugel for 1 hour. Cover the top with foil if the top begins to become too brown early in the baking. Remove the kugel from the oven and cool to room temperature.
Cook's Tip: The kugel can be made 2 days ahead, cooled, and refrigerated, covered. Bring to room temperature and reheat in a 350°F oven.

Happy Passover!

i just searched online for "passover apple kugel" and got the following links..
maybe one of the recipes will sound familiar:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Matzo-Apple-Kugel/Detail.aspx
http://kosherfood.about.com/od/sidedishesforpassover/r/kugel_apple.htm
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Apple-Matzoh-Kugel-104862
there are probably many others that can be found online (these were the first 3 that came up)..

by the way, when i make regular apple kugel (not for passover), i use apple sauce instead of apples and it comes out great - my family much prefers it that way....don't know if that would work in any of these recipes..

Hey Challer,

First of all, I love, love, love the way you call fellow Jewish friends on here DISraelites! :) I am not Jewish, but just spent several months teaching my kids at church about the Exodus and the first Passover and DISraelites always makes me smile. :)

Anyway. .. I have been meaning to tell you I heard your voice mail on Ricky's podcast and I thought you did a fabulous job on your review of the Waking Sleeping Beauty. I have much respect for you and your posts because you are always so positive and informative.

Have a wonderful and blessed Passover!

Angie

Thanks for noticing that it was me! I loved the movie so much I wanted to share my feelings with everyone.

"DISraelites" was something that popped in my head in Chat once, and it makes me smile, too.

So, the DD breakfast this morning: Garlic bagel with tuna, chocolate chunk cookie - fresh with "melty" chunks (my kids' term), and a large white hot chocolate. That felt good. I'll be back there "on the other side."

McDonalds - nice. The one in the Ra'anana mall? I went there last year after pesach finished, but the food court downstairs (near the movie theater) was a bigger draw for me.

Enjoy, all!

No not in raanana.... If we were there I would never go to mcdonalds.... Much better places to eat...
No I'm talking about beit shean in the north near my brother in laws kibbutz....
Good thing we ate a lot for lunch ...
We didn't get to shulchan aruch until just before midnight ....
We finished the Seder at 2 am!!!!

Finished Seder #1 at 11:30pm (once my kids passed out, we hightailed it to the end) and finished #2 at 1am.

For #1 (hosted by my family), my wife made 3 types of Charoset - American, Israeli, and Moroccan. All were sweet!

just got back from lunch at borochov 88...mmmmmmmmm.....
there are so many kosher for passover restaurants - no need to cook at home....which certainly works for me..
i had pesach lasagna (gluten free pasta)..
Aaron and Gil both had salmon filet..
Gil's wife had a lox/cream cheese sandwich (yummy pesach roll)
Chani had Israeli breakfast..
Chani's boyfriend had lasagna too...

and yummy pesach cake for desert....

by the way, check out the video on my facebook page of the banias - they opened a new hanging walkway - it's hanging off the side of the cavern, so you can now see the banias (nachal snir) in an area that could never be seen before (no way to get to it before)..
i didn't think of filming it with my iphone, but fortunately, chani did...

the clip only shows a small part of it...you walk for a while over the river on this new hanging path...
it's incredible.,...you could always hear the water raging that way, but never see it...
i think this is the link to it: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/batshevalerner?ref=profile

Just found out that friends of mine are going to my ex's for Passover dinner. Sure, they were his friends first. And we have been divorced for 18 years. And my ex has converted from his Jewish birth religion to his new wife's Baptist religion. And, sure I was never Jewish, any way.

I still miss the good Passover dinners with his family. :sad1:
