HAPPY NEW YEAR
I received a free entry into the first annual Resolution Run early this morning. Before we start screaming BANDIT at the screen the RD gave a few entries to race sponsors and one of these sponsors caught me late afternoon yesterday and asked if I would like it.
Race start was midnight. We had a nice little crowd of maybe 500 runners. I was going into the race thinking a great training run lets hold marathon pace and run a conservative race. Temps were in the upper 40s with a wind out of the NE around 20. (sound familier????)
The gun went off and I found myself running an all out 5k. I was getting cold at the start and just wanted to get the race done. I was able to pull back and ran the first mile in a 8:10 pace. I continued that pace through mile 2 then died heading back into the brisk wind. I was pacing in a group of folks who were dropping off the back of our little pack and when we made the turn back into the wind it was me and a small framed lady. I couldnt draft off her and she started really digging. Sanity hit and I finished with a nice race time in the low 27 range.
I am here this AM with a slightly scratchy throat but I am sure that is from the drainage. I had no clue that I would not be able to turn off after getting home. (The race was a 3 minute drive from the house). I could not sleep until 2 ish.... and my danged body is programmed to wake at 5.
Hope everyone had a safe evening and a propserous NEW YEAR
