HAPPY NEW YEAR

I received a free entry into the first annual Resolution Run early this morning. Before we start screaming BANDIT at the screen the RD gave a few entries to race sponsors and one of these sponsors caught me late afternoon yesterday and asked if I would like it.

Race start was midnight. We had a nice little crowd of maybe 500 runners. I was going into the race thinking a great training run – let’s hold marathon pace and run a conservative race. Temps were in the upper 40’s with a wind out of the NE around 20. (sound familier????)

The gun went off and I found myself running an all out 5k. I was getting cold at the start and just wanted to get the race done. I was able to pull back and ran the first mile in a 8:10 pace. I continued that pace through mile 2 then died heading back into the brisk wind. I was pacing in a group of folks who were dropping off the back of our little pack and when we made the turn back into the wind it was me and a small framed lady. I couldn’t draft off her and she started really digging. Sanity hit and I finished with a nice race time in the low 27 range.

I am here this AM with a slightly scratchy throat but I am sure that is from the drainage. I had no clue that I would not be able to turn off after getting home. (The race was a 3 minute drive from the house). I could not sleep until 2 ish.... and my danged body is programmed to wake at 5.

Hope everyone had a safe evening and a propserous NEW YEAR

Charles, nice way to kick off the new year. That would have been neat. I stayed up, but barely :) Even though I did 10 miles yesterday I need to go run a little this morning just to start the year off right!

Let's see, 1 week from today I will be in 5K mode at Disney.

Happy New Year everyone. See many of you in week!

Good for you for getting out there! I've always thought that it would be "fun" to do a New Year's midnight race.

Maybe you can catch up on your sleep later today. ;)

Funny, it is the first time I have seen the new year come in since 2000. We usually let Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest (SP?) bring it in then fall off to sleep.

It does make me want to do the Wine and Dine now. I have only raced at night as part of a longer effort. i.e. IM, 12 hour bike race, and adventure race. I am alsway dragging when night falls on these races. It was nice to get out fresh. Though I did keep looking for the sunrise

Happy New Year Charles and all WISHers! Congrats on your race, sounds really fun. Hope you can catch up on sleep tonight!

Happy New Year Charles! I wished there was a night run in our area to kick off 2010. Sounds like fun! I also stayed up much too late last night and had a difficult time going to sleep and waking up. It really threw my schedule off.

Congrats on your race!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

Charles that sounds like a fun way to ring in the New Year! What a way to start off 2010!!!!! Hope the throat is feeling better this evening :)

Happy new year everyone!

Wow Charles that sounds like fun! We just stayed in and watched movies, maybe some year I will get to do a new year run!

I hope everyone has an awesome 2010

Happy New Year Everyone!

Congrats Charles. A midnight race sounds like fun (I am such a night person)!

I saw the new year in and then went to bed about 1:30. Had to be in work by 8AM. Got out of work at 3:30, went to the track and finished 5 miles.
I'm a little sore (kinda slacked the last couple of weeks :rolleyes1). Hope to get a few more runs in this weekend, Monday and Tuesday before heading out to the World. No taper madness for me, as I wasn't as diligent as I needed to be with training. :sad2:
