Jennyjinx - Matthew LOVES water. He was unable to have a submerged bath until he was two years old. With his hemo catheter - he couldn't get it wet EVER. Wet = line infection. Line infection = sepsis. Sepsis = lots of scary stuff (especially having dealt with it 4 times already)
With his vesicostomy (a hole in his abdomen that his bladder was pulled out and attached to the abdominal wall so he could urinate) being an open hole straight into his bladder and his rejection drugs making him SO susceptible to infection, we never let the bath water rise more than a couple of inches. He was born without a urethra (the tubing you need to get the urine from the bladder to the outside of your body). Such a small thing, but HIGHLY overlooked in importance!

When we went in for surgery on Valentine's day (also known as National Donor day

) we found out he had REGROWN his urethra!!

The doctors were so confused, but I told them Matthew just got sick of waiting for everyone else to "fix" him, that he decided to fix himself!
We closed the vesicostomy this past May!!! And needless to say, I have a fish! He went into a pool for the first time 3 weeks later and has had FULL out baths every night since.

We are looking forward to a Disney pool!
