Hannukah Menorah Lighting?

I was just working on my calendar and realized that we're going to be in the World during Hannukah. Two questions:
1. Do any of the resorts or parks do a candle lighting at night?
2. Are open flames allowed in the rooms?
Thanks for your help!

I know open flames are a no-no in the room, but I have seen others post that they took an electric/battery-operated menorah with them.

I don't know of any nightly lighting but I am not Jewish, so it's possible it exists somewhere. Disney doesn't do much that is religious in nature, of any religion, so you might not find anything.

Don't know if this will open a debate, but Candelight is pretty religious, IMHO. However, the way I look at it is Disney is a private company and they can choose to celebrate whichever religious holidays they wish.

I'm also Jewish, and we'll be on our trip for almost all of Hannukah. I think we're going to do the battery-operated Menorah...or, we also have a plush menorah where the candles are little plush toys that you stick in the pockets on the larger plush menorah. We'll prob have to forgo doing the big gifts on the last night, though, since we can't pack anything too big.

Open flames are a no go as is normal for hotels or dorms. It is just too much of a hazard to allow them (would you trust hundreds of people to always remember to put out their candles on your private property? I don't even trust that I will remember to put them out in my own home!).

The item you posted to (the Hanukkah piece of the Holidays around the World) is a nice presentation about Jewish holiday traditions and history, but it's not lighting the menorah as the OP asked.

I was referring to holding religious services, which Disney does very little of - I think there is still a non-denominational service on Christmas and there might be something similar on Easter.

In California, I have seen Chabad do candlelighting at DTD. Perhaps they do something similar in Florida.

I didn't think the OP was asking about religious services, and I didn't think your answer was referring to religious services, either. Just anything "relgious in nature," right?

I did see in the post that I referenced, that there was a mention of a few lighted menorahs in the Osborne lights...I thought perhaps those would have one more light added each night. In any event, I was just trying to be helpful.

People lighting candles in their Disney resort rooms is a hot-button issue here on the DIS. :surfweb:

You will have no problem with the resort staff if your family wishes to light the menorah, pray, etc in the privacy of your room if you choose to do so. (For those that do not know, menorah candles only need to burn for 30 minutes and would not be left unattended.) Beeble, no worries, WDW resort staff will absolutely not interfere with your ritual, nor would you get thrown out or anything for lighting the menorah candles in your room. However, that being said, since there is no religious prohibition on using battery/non open flame candles, that would, of course, be a good option to consider. :thumbsup2

I would suggest getting an electric menorah. Hanukkah falls on the last week that I am away at school and you are not allowed to have candles in the townhome that I am living in so I will have an electric menorah in my room instead.

We actually have one of those on our window every year for hanukkah in addition to our regular menorah.

Also, I dont know if they an actual candle lighting but they do have hanukkah represented in the American Pavillion. We were there dec 19th-24th in 2007 and they had the story of hanukkah there but since we werent there when it was actually hanukkah, I dont know if they do anythign on the actual holiday

What did you end up doing?

Why the American pavillion? What is the connection between Chanukah and America? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to have it at the Israeli pavillion? Oh wait... :)

At first glance I read this thread title as “Hakuna Menorah” and I was temporarily miffed at Disney for hitting a new low with IP synergy until I realized my mistake.

I think I need more sleep or better glasses. :rolleyes2
