We’re heading to WDW on Father’s Day, and this will be our first time visiting during the summer rainy season. Since we’re usually there in cooler weather, we’ve always just worn our jackets for any rain storms we’ve been in. Looking for recommendations on how you handle the heat/rain combo. Dollar Tree ponchos? Disney ponchos? Something else? Is it even worth messing with an umbrella?

There's not agreement about this - we prefer cheapo ponchos, and I bring a few for each person when we go in the summer. Some swear by umbrellas. We have been several times in the summer, have gotten caught in many downpours, and they usually pass quickly. Going inside for a ride/snack is a good idea to try to wait it out but be aware outdoor rides do get shut down. We once got caught in the BTMRR line, right before we were about to board the train. Had to wait there about an hour and wound up talking with lots of folks around us, almost all were from the UK, and it's one of my favorite Disney memories, so the summer storms are not all bad :)

I invested in a good quality packable rain coat. It squishes up small enough to fit in my crossbody bag. I hate the ponchos personally. I've also brought an umbrella to the parks but I get too anxious about crowds and poking people randomly with my umbrella so I stick to the rain coat. Unless it's torrential downpour I just throw on my raincoat and keep on tromping. I also wear a pair of Keen water sandals so my feet are good to go as well.

We like the cheap ponchos too. Usually they can cover your shorts or most of your pants. And they just seem to dry out quicker than the vinyl kind. Much lighter to carry too.

We like both depending on if it’s light rain or heavy downpours. We like the Disney ponchos. They are worth it if you go regularly. If they rip etc.. you can turn it in and get a new one for free.

I bring my rain jacket in July and in December. The only difference the temp is going to make is what's underneath it.

In June, a poncho feels so hot. Yet an umbrella can flip inside out with the wind. Last summer, you could not quickly run into a shop like past years due to capacity. The same is probably true for this summer.

We waited out a storm recently in the Space Mt gift shop. Capacity wasn’t really enforced and it was raining buckets. After 45 minutes, we decided to leave. My umbrella kept my head dry, but the rest of me was soaked. Was a soggy drive home.

Those collapsible umbrellas are handy to use during a suddenly rain shower and gives you time to find a covered area/ride/store until it passes. Most of the showers are brief and not the all day type. If it was raining all day, we would probably just go back to our hotel. The clear plastic ponchos are also convenient for one time use since many come in a small container that is easy to carry around.

It depends. If they forecast isn't showing any rain, I carry a cheap poncho (cause you know it's going to). If it's already raining or the forecast calls for showers all day, I carry a Disney poncho. If the forecast calls for quick showers, I carry a small umbrella with a fastener I can fasten on a belt hoop.

We use cheap ponchos from Amazon. I considered investing in a better rain poncho or rain jacket but those ones usually don't fold up well to put back in purse and I don't want to be lugging it around. I bring several for each person and don't care of they get ruined or tossed. I wear a water resistant sport sandal.

We carry our old Disney ponchos. I bet they're 20 years old. We finally had to replace my daughter's about 10 years ago because she wasn't a child any longer. FWIW they are pretty good quality and last a long time.

I get inexpensive disposable ponchos on Amazon and put one or two in my bag each day. Once I use one, it goes in the garbage. I HATE having to deal with folding and storing a wet poncho, so I've found this is my best option.

Living in NYC and having dealt with umbrellas in a crowd (and almost losing an eye on more than one occasion), they are my pet peeve. Way too many people think they're being so careful but are clueless about the extra distance they need when they pop that thing open.

My DW buy cheap disposable ponchos. Pack in a pocket or bag, wear them, and toss ‘em when the rain stops. I’m made of like 40% sugar, so I don’t melt too much When it rains.

I saw one of the earlier threads mentioning the color ponchos bled when wet onto the clothes underneath, so be careful. Saw some colored ponchos at Dollar General. Avoided. The Walmart clear ones were $0.97.

Agreed. We've dealt with trying to fold and put away wet ponchos or raincoats in the past, and it's way too much of a hassle.
