I thought I had a started or come across a thread about this on the disboards before, but I can't find it.

I have searched the web, local med equipment supply stores. I just can't find handle extensions.

DH is about 6' tall. I don't think that is unusually tall, I wouldn't think this would be this difficult. I have a standard wheelchair. The handles he holds to push me are too low, he has to bend over to push me. Again, I know I asked this somewhere & got suggestions, I just can't find it. I primarily walk, unless it is a high confusion/sensory area, so this problem is somewhat out of sight out of mind, but everytime he has to push me his back bothers him from leaning over. (come to think of it, maybe his arms are exceptionally short. :confused3 ).

So, does anyone have any ideas. Funny, dd Maclaren stroller has adjustable handles. You would think wheelchairs could have something like that.

I am also looking for extensions, and I am not getting anywhere - please let me know if you get any info!

When/if I get any info, I will post it. Good luck on your end.

Here's a link to one past thread about handle extensions:

Thank you so much! I was pretty sure I had started this before, but hadn't written it down, so when I couldn't find it myself when I searched, I thought the mid-life mindlessness had settled in again. Now, not only to I know I haven't lost my mind ...completely anyway, but I have this wealth of knowledge at my finger tips again. I don't know why I couldn't find this when I searched this thread.

Thanks SueM!!!

You’re welcome.
I remembered the thread and could think of some of the words I used in my replies. That made it easier to find.

Now, I, that is dh & I, have new questions, since I don't use the chair alot (right now anyway, thankfully), it sits in the back of our van alot. Does anyone know:

1)if the extensions are relatively simple to remove & put back on

2)visibility when backing up (on the ones that stay on & chair still folds)

3) is the "Wright Stuff, Inc." reputable.

I have to say, I can not believe the durable medical supply places around here aren't more helpful. I can only imagine how I would feel if it was a huge deal to get over to one of those "experts" stores and they were so very unknowledgable. Well, as I am reminded of... often, another lesson of patience I will thank my maker for.

Many thanks to you all on this wonderful Knowledgeable board :flower3::flower3::flower3:

This is the email I got in response to my inquiry on finding more informations about the handle extensions and pricing from TAD...

"Hi Denise

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not supply these items off the shelf. They are made on a case by case basis, and as such, I cannot give you a price without knowing a little more about the requirements.

Can I suggest that you put in a Project Application Form found on our website here? http://www.tadnsw.org.au/Services/Devices/deviceapply.php

We will then be in touch shortly to work through your requirements.

Kindest regards,

regarding the CASBAR, THE
"The Casbar is a wheelchair push handle extension designed to enable a companion or caregiver to push a wheelchair using one hand. The ends of this C-shaped coated steel bar fit over the existing wheelchair push handles and lock in place using two large adjusting knobs to create a single stroller-style handle. On flat surfaces, this device enables the chair to be pushed and controlled with one hand and on inclines and ramps, using two hands makes pushing less difficult than when using the standar..."
