There are quite a few handicapped parking spots, but if you come later in the day, you will be probably parking on the far ends of the handicapped parking area. Some of them are very large. They are the closest parking to the park entrance, but since they are large, that can still mean quite a walk to the park entrance. There are some courtesy wheelchairs available in the handicapped parking lots, but no guarantee there will be one available when you need it.

The regular parking lots have trams that go from the parking lot to the park entrance; the trams are not wheelchair accessible and there is no tram service to/from the handicapped parking. If you have a wheelchair or ECV, you have no choice but to park in the handicapped parking area.
If you don't and are able to step up to ride the tram, you will actually have a much shorter walk to the entrance by parking in the regular lot and taking the tram. You can ask the CM to let you park near the front of the row.

For MK, if you are staying on-site, I would recommend using the bus service.
If you drive, you will need to ride the tram or walk to the TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center). From the TTC, you either walk up a long, steep ramp to the monorail (no elevator) or take the longer walk to the boat. Either the monorail or the boat will leave you off very close to where the buses deliver guests coming from the resorts.

Thanks for the info!

10 days and counting!!

Definitely DON'T use the HC parking if you don't have a WC/ECV with you. The walk is way TOO long. We learned that one the hard way!

 Thanks all for the info. I don't use a WC, but walk with a cane. Longer walks are strenous, but not impossible. We will probably just park in the regular lot and use the tram. We figured in the parks we will just take our time and enjoy all that Disney has to offer!

Just tell the parking CM that you need to park close to the tram for medical reasons. That's great that you will be parking in the regular lot that way someone who has a chair has a better chance of getting a spot.

If you use the handicap lot at MK I think you will be sorry. it's a LONG walk to the park. I definitely agree with Michigan here.

I don't mean to butt in, and if my comments are out of place, please say so, but you might want to consider renting a wheelchair or ECV for the holiday if you have mobility problems, even if you don't normally use one. There's a huge amount of walking involved in the Disney parks, and you don't want to spoil your holiday being in pain. Once around the world showcase lagoon is over a mile, I think, and Animal Kingdom could apparently hold all three of the other parks simultaneously within its borders. I've tried 'toughing it out' before, and I ended up sitting on the floor in the shop in Norway on the verge of tears, not so fun.

Do whatever you need to do to have a magical holiday :goodvibes

There is always the option of an ECV, but on our arrival day we will get to WDW at about noon. We then plan on checking in at the motel and going to the magic kingdom. That will be a short day, and I will be better able to judge if I can make it or not. I would rather not get one because if you're not used to driving one of them things they can be a pain...for me and all around me! I think I will be all right...we have 7 full days to enjoy the parks! Thanks for your concern.:yay: :cool1: :cool1:

If I remember right, in the "regular" lots the spots closest to the tram are marked handicapped. Just DON'T show your placard entering the or you'll be directed to the HC lot where you don't want to be. Don't show the placard until you get into the "regular" lot. If you have your own cars with HC plates, just make sure the tell the attendant you don't want the HC lot.

I don't think those spots are marked as handicapped, but they do usually have an orange cone in them until the CM removes it.
That is a good point to not show the handicapped parking until you need to.
