We are staying at fort Wilderness and I feel that they make things difficult for folks in wheelchairs to get to MK early enough for rope drop. My dad uses a power chair and can't get on the smaller boats just the larger. Well those only start running a half hr before park opening. By the time it loads at FW then goes to WL you arrive in enough time to run and get to the back of everyone. Which for someone in a handicapped situation to get to MK. And since there is no bus either... Anyone run into this and or voiced concerns to the mouse?

They provide what they legally have to if you get to the dock in early enough the. You should make rope drop. You could also drive to mk if Disney free transportation is not good enough. Or you could take the internal bus to transfer to the wilderness lodge and use their bus.

Wow! :confused3 :rolleyes1

You would need to check what time these buses start running, but you could see about taking the FW bus to WL and then the bus from WL to MK.

For some reason, when I have stayed at FW, I have never paid attention to the large versus small boat. I guess I will have to take that into consideration if I stay there again with my sister or mom. I know that it was a 50/50 on if the boat I was on would stop at WL or not.

Here now at FW. The boats in the AM are dedicated to FW. Boat sharing with WL starts later in the day. In the evening rush exodus, the boats again return to being dedicated to FW.

im fully aware they have dedicated boats for FW and WL at peak times. the boat got into dock and we were unloaded as the RD program was beginning. We had to wait until the boat was near empty to deboard as being in a wheelchair, it woudnt have gone up over the high difference to dock. We then got to the bag check area right when it was starting. SO as to not miss anything, we waited outside by the express check in rather than fight through bag line too.

The point I was trying to get across is there seems to be a lot less ease of things for those in mobility devices. My dad has terminal cancer and can barely walk the few feet he needs to to board the few rides he does go on. Taking a bus from FW, then changing to another at WL to take to MK is asking a lot of handicapped people.

And at the fort I have noticed some less than accessible things. For example, since my dad is in the wheel chair, he needs to use sidewalk. Well our loop right next to our site has a path to the road. However the sidewalk in on other side. There is no crosswalk or even a path directly opposite. of course he can backtrack to loop entrance and cross. But im just saying.

. . . Anyone run into this and or voiced concerns to the mouse?

1) WDW knows that not all transportation is accessible.
2) And that which is, may be untimely.
3) But, the law requires access, nothing more.
4) Disney has been severely hoodwinked by people faining handicaps.
5) Now, they are tightening all requirements and accesses.
6) They have gone to the theory of just meeting the minimums.
7) But, you can always email a complaint.

You do know it a safety reason they made you wait the boat on water which is out of Disney control. If that point the water is lower and the boat to heavy it not safe for you to board until the boat can be level with the dock.

Their not required to have side walk on both sides of the street or even have one to begun with they offer internal buses to get around. Your asking for stuff that not required of Disney To do they put cross walks where they feel it be safe to cross.

You had to wait until people exited so the boat would be level what you want Disney to do pump water into their to raise he water level. If you leave in enough time you make it to their just think of everyone who has to take a bus they have to plan to be their to before rope drop if they want to. But to blame Disney for stuff that out of their control and for maybe a little bad planing on the guest side is not fair.

Well PP you either a: are completely misreading what I wrote or b: don't care for folks in a wheelchair?!?! This is not our first time here by far , but only the third since my dads diagnosis and firstvsince 2010. I know full well the reason we were held to the side to unload! It happens all the time and we are completely fin with it. As for bad guest planning; we were down there to get on boat at 745! So no we didn't plan poorly. We thought both boats were running 90 mins prior but we were wrong and that is OK!. The point I was making is that it would be nice if both boats ran early. As it was ours was packed full. Stating them a bit earlier would help EVERYONE. And as for sidewalks, I wasn't saying they need on both sides of street. But maybe having more cross walks to get across would make it easier, again for EVERYONE.
I thought ppl came here to discuss strategies and help those touring. I was merely asking if anyone had similar difficulties, not get basically told I blame Disney for things which I dont

I do care about people in wheelchair sorry of it came across I don't they run one big boat and one small boat. It be nice if they add another one but then it might make it worse because if the water level is low. They don't have buses to mk at the diet because the fort dose not want to pay for it. I just have to some reason why it happened Disney can't control the water level so even if they had another boat it might still be delayed if it happens again. Te side walk issue it be nice if they put more cross walks but I guess Disney try's to limit crossing for safety reason for the buses. But it always one small boat and one big boat they other set get put on the other run to resorts.

Again sorry I know my post sounded like I don't care But i do i just get upset when people try to blame Disney for things they can't control.
