Handicap rooms at Wilderness Lodge?

Do they have handicap rooms at Wilderness Lodge (preferably a one-bedroom)?

We've been planning a trip to Wilderness Lodge for this October - ressies have all been made for months now; however, last Tuesday (week ago), DH had to have his leg amputated. Long story short - he has had vascular problems and about 2 weeks ago he developed a blood clot and after days of trying to dissolve it and get a pulse back, the pulse would not return thus ending in an amputation (at above the knee).

DH thinks he'll have a prostesis by then and we'll be "good to go" according to him and thinks all we'll need is a handicap room (since we'll have a wheelchair with us).

So I figured I'd check with the DisBoards first before calling.

I'm sorry your husband had to have the surgery. I hope he recovers and is walking comfortably on a prosthetic soon.

In answer to your question, yes, all DVC resorts have handicapped units. If you are sure you will need one, be sure to contact Member Services, and have them block it for you through Special Needs.

Most handicap one bedrooms will have the whirlpool tub, as well as a roll-in shower, raised commode, and grab bars where needed. Also there will be lower sinks and counters, and little or no storage under the counters to allow the wheelchair to fit under the counters.

Thank you Chuck for responding. DH has a great attitude about the whole thing which is great. I think I've freaked out more than he has! I will definitely contact Member Services. I think we will need one since he'll be in the wheelchair when not wearing his leg. (That just sounds so weird - "not wearing his leg" )

I called about a handicap-accessible one-bedroom at Wilderness Lodge and I got one. I explained the situation and they were so helpful!

Now I hope we can actually go in October! Can't wait - you just got to love Disney!
