And I would have called the cops on the person with the expired tag who nearly ran over a group of pedestrians to get the handicapped spot. I have no tolerance for that sort of thing. (I don't mean when an apparently healthy person has a tag, I understand about hidden conditions, but that guy was obviously screwing the system. His hangtag was expired).

I know in Virginia the tags have the persons name and birthdate on them. I guess it is a way for cops to screen who is using them for those abuse cases.....ie, my husband has a hanger, is not with me, I don't feel like walking, so I will use his hanger. Yep, I would have gotten the number off the hanger and also the license tag number of the violator.

I don't agree with what the woman did to your dad, but I can see how frustrating it must be for those who truly need the benefit to see things like the family using the expired tag to procure a convenient loading zone. IMO the standards to get a placard in California are embarrassingly low. I was offered a permanent placard a year ago because I have chronic anemia. Being tired every now and then is apparently a handicap. I can't imagine taking the space away from someone who truly needs it because it might be having a sluggish day.

I have 2 vans with plates and 2 hang tags for both my daughters. They are both paraplegics. I got the plates because in Michigan if you have a lift on your van and have a handicap plate then the cost of you plate is 50% of what it would be without the plate and lift. Most of the time we can never find a handicap spot because they are always full so the van I use the most with the kids has a rear lift so it doesn't matter where I park because they can get out.

They both have Spina Bifida one is at T12-L1 and the other is L1-L2(spared) she can move her right leg but can feel it and has small tremmors in both legs and feet.

Oh well duh, that makes sense. When I hear para I usually think they were injured somehow. I often forget SB. My bad I am T5-6
