Hi Everyone. I posted a question on the DVC board to inquire if there are any AKV value 1 BR handicap accessible rooms with a separate shower. Apparently, there are not any. The rooms only have a whirlpool tub/shower combo. My mother is coming with us and she can use the tub/shower combo but will need a shower chair and a handheld shower head to bathe. I called DVC MS and thay told me that they will equip our room with these things. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Several Disney resorts have provided me with a handheld shower. The only way I can bathe is to sit on a bath bench and use the handheld. She will have no problems, but her shower may take a little longer until she gets used to it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm just a little concerned to that the tub in the AKL villa will be a whirlpool tub with higher sides. Does anyone have any ideal how high the sides of the tub or where I can find out that info? Thanks

The whirlpool tubs at Jambo House have very high sides. As a 5'7 woman, I found the tub to be very deep to step out of, and I felt a little unsteady stepping down to the floor. I don't have any idea what your mother's disability is, but I am afraid she will have a great deal of difficulty getting in and out of the tub. At best, you probably will need to help steady her when she steps in and out. I put my hands on the side of the tub and sort of crawled out just to feel safer. I have had leg surgery twice, and I don't feel as steady on my feet as I did when I was younger, but I don't have a true disability.
