Handicap Accessible Rooms at HHI

We will be staying in a 2 bedroom at HHI in March. My mother is traveling with us this trip and she has had several hip surgeries as well as knee surgery and she walks with crutches. I asked her if she thought she needed a handicap accessible room and she is not concerned about doing the stairs, but said she really needs the walk in shower.

My question: I know these rooms are located in the main building, as it is the only one that has an elevator. Does anyone know exactly where (room numbers) they are located? Is there a chance to have a marsh view in one of these rooms? Is the accessible bathroom going to be in the studio part of the 2 bedroom or is it in the master bathroom?

We really were hoping for a marsh view this trip, but obviously my mom's comfort is more important. If she can do the stairs and we stayed in a non-accessible room isn't there a walk in shower in the master bath?

Any advice is appreciated!

I was in a HA studio in the main building. It was connected to a 1 bedroom, but I don't know if that had a walk in shower like we did. It was on the same level as the check in desk. We walked passed the desk, through the door and it was right there, on the left hand side. We didn't have much of a view, just of the spanish moss in the trees and the building opposite us but I loved our stay.

Yes, there's a walk-in shower in the master bath. And I'm afraid that to the best of my knowledge, none of the HA villas have a marsh view. However, I'd recommend, as you said, that your mom's comfort is most important. The marsh views are going to be there for a long time.

All of the HCA villas are located in the Main Lodge (Buildings 11/12). You will need to arrange that thru MS when you reserve. Most of the villas in the Live Oak Lodge do have a view towards the marsh, although some are considered "Island View". In the summer when the fireworks are available these villas will be able to see the fireworks over the Marsh thru the trees.

Be sure to request the HCA villa as those are the only ones with the roll-in shower.

I must have been wrong then. Whcih HA villas have views of the marsh? The only HA villas I remember were looking internally. A HA villa that overlooked the marsh would be nice.

Here is a coded map of HHI.

Even the "Island View" villas in Building 11 can see the marsh, but they do have an obstructed view thru the trees. I don't think there are any HCA villas on the side with the unobstructed view of the water.
