Can we bring a Gameboy and a Leapster on the plane to keep kids amused? Is that allowed? Older one knows to play without sound or sound turn real low.
Thanks

As soon as the captain says you can use hand help equipment, you've got the green light. Thank God for GB, or I might have jumped off the plane!!!:rotfl:

I'm bringing my PSP and we're bringing the Leapster for the kids.

From the time they shut the door until they make the announcement once the plane has leveled, and again before landing they must be stowed. Otherwise they can be played with earphones or volume off.

You can get headphones for Gameboys and Leapsters, by the way. I think I've used airplane headphones for the Leapster in the past. Depends on the jack.

Be sure to bring ear phones for the Leapster. Most of my sons's game give verbal instructions. We didn't take ear phones and the boys were not able to play the Leapster because they couldn't hear it over the engine noise. Mistake on my part

I didn't even think about headphones. i'm putting it on my list.

Thanks!

Ok add that to the to do list! Thank you.

DD1 brought a leapster on our last flight to NC and we've taken the laptop with DVD to keep them entertained on our trip last year to Disney. Will take both again on our upcoming trips to Disney.:)

Did you bring headphones? The more I think about I dont think DS4 is gonna wear them. he just got the Leapster yesterday and was playing the games that it comes with and he just loved the Painting one which has some sound but not much. Now he may be doingmore with in a couple of weeks when we fly.

Start using the headphones at home. And tell him he's got no choice on the plane. Headphones or no Leapster. Get him to understand the rules now so that he won't argue when you are on the plane. If you allow him to make the rules, you've lost control as a parent--it's a slippery slope you dont want to go down.

 Maybe he would wear the ear buds if he doesn't want something going around his head (but now he'd have plugs in his ears). Bose, Sony and a few other manufacturers make the ear buds with the silicone plugs that give you the option of have XS, S, M or L sized plugs to fit your individual ear. (Each set comes with all the sizes so you don't have to decide before you buy). DD13 and DS15 have them-so does DH and myself. We love them and it is less space in the carryon bag and less cumbersome when wearing them. Just a thought. No matter what, like someone else suggested, I'd try to get DS used to the earphones or earbuds well before going on the plane.

Who's rule is this? The airlines, the FAA? I was not aware of any so if there is one thank you for pointing this out.

And please do not question my parenting, you know nothing about me, my child or the discpline I take with them. Thanks.

And just so you know this will be his first flight and he has sensory issues so I am not sure if he will tolerate headphones, so it may be in our best interest not to bring it or bring it out on the plane. That is why I asked the question if any other family brought them and what there experience was with them. And if there are rules to follow I will do that as well.

Definitely no rules with the FAA that I've heard of. I think the headphone thing only came up as a suggestion. I'm so darn overly courteous and worried about bothering people that I just always use headphones, but I would fall over if someone on the plane actually complained about your son's Leapster and the sound it makes. I personally, would not care. I'd rather have a happy, occupied child near me any day playing audible games than to hear a discontented one flipping out. Do whatever works for you. :thumbsup2

Thanks if it a rule then I would follow one. If it is a suggestion and a matter of courtesy, I will take that into consideration too. I would like to try the headphones but like I said not sure how they are going to go over. I mean we just got the game as a gift yesterday an I wasnt sure he would even like it, so I am still in the investigating stage with this toy.

I certainly dont wat to disrupt anyone around me but I a guess I am not sure how this toy's noise would be any different than if I was talking to him, or reading to him. Which is my other option that I am considering. Bringing a couple of new story books with me which he will look at himself but probably at some point he will ask me to read them to him. Not sure what the party next to me would prefer possibly hearing his Leapster game or me reading a Blue's Clues book over and over again!

When I flew pre kids I just wanted the kid to not have a fit or throw up. One flight we took, my son was 18 months and the only thing he wanted to do was sing the ABCs over and over again (not loud, in fact we made it a game to whisper it but you still hear us) and he wanted me draw all the letters on the magandoodle so he could tell me what they were. I thought I was going crazy with the sound and when we landed I apologized to those around me and they just laughed and said "you kidding me that was heaven compared to a screaming kid":woohoo: "WHEW!

The airlines do not allow electronic devices to be used without headphones. I've seen FA's tell people more than once that they ahd to use headphones or turn it off.

No offense was meant, sorry if you took it that way.

Usually when the announcement is made that electronic devices may now be used, it's given with the caveat that headphones must be used. I've seen FA's tell people to use headphones or turn the volume/device off. If your son won't use the headphones, you might be better off finding something else to occupy him rather than having to take it away if you bring it out and he won't wear them.

Untrue. We fly all the time with ours, sans head phones.

Thanks for your apology. I know it is hard to interpret intent in a post or email so thanks.

This is why I am asking these questions because I am exploring my options on amusement for both DS9and DS4. DS9 knows to play his GB w/o volume and will pick an appropiate game or once again I might just have him do a puzzle book or read.

DS4 like any 4 year old is a challenge. He is usually a well behaved child who will listen but I certainly need to be prepared to amuse and distract as well I have never flown with him so I am not sure if any sensory issues will be a factor or not. So I plan on bringinga variety of options, and one was possibly the Leapster. Like I said we just received this as a gift yesterday so I am in the preliminary stages of deciding to bring this. And I am still not sure how the volume in this game if placed at a certain volume would be any differnt than any level of conversation.

But since you mentioned this is an issue with the airline, I can call SW and find out or if anyone has flown SW or works for them I would appreciate their insights as well.
