Hand, wrist, arm pain

It has come on pretty suddenly. My hand really hurts in the palm, my wrist hurt all the way around and I can't put any pressure on my hand or pain shoots up to my shoulder. It really hurts from the palm up to the elbow. My job isn't anything repetitive or regular. (I work part-time at a zoo)

If I'm not using it too much it really aches at the wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

I plan on going to the dr's on Wednesday if the pain isn't gone by then.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Charity

Sounds like you might have pulled something. I would get a wrist splint and alternate ice and heat therapy. And yes if the pain persists more than a couple days see a doctor.

Did you fall, bump it hard or anything that you remember? It almost sounds like you broke a bone, the symptoms are very similar. You could also have a ganglion cyst. Feel around your wrist, do you feel any bumps that shouldn't be there? I wouldn't use heat on it yet but ice is a good idea. It could be a number of things, obviously. If it is sore or uncomfortable all the time it is worth a trip into the dr sooner rather than later.

If your insurance allows you to see a specialist without seeing your primary care doctor first, I'd skip straight to a hand specialist. It is too easy to be misdiagnosed by a general practitioner since the hand is so complicated. You can find a hand doctor in your area by searching at this site.

I have a rare hand disorder. When I mention the name to doctors that aren't hand specialists or radiologists they look at me like :confused3. Fortunately I sought out a hand specialist and got the right care.

Chiropractor.

There are a lot of hand problems that a chiropractor would not be able to do anything for. In fact, I think there are some instances where a chiropractor could actually do more harm than good. I'd see a hand doctor before deciding if a chiropractor would be an option.

They are not specialists in hand disorders generally, so I would second a family dr. for a referral or a hand specialist if you can go without referral.

I don't think that poster was being serious. There is another poster on here that recommends you see a chiropractor for pretty much anything, even if it isn't in a chiropractors scope of practice.

Its not all in the hand which is what bugs me the most, its in the palm, top of the hand, wrist, elbow, and my shoulder aches but I think that's because I am babying the hand/wrist

Actually, I was being serious. I have a shoulder blade that is winging out, and it causes pain in my arm, and down into my hand at times. And I have an old finger injury that my chiropractor also works on once in a blue moon.

Might not be her answer, but it was my answer & I was serious.

Whoops...my mistake. Sorry about that.

I'm having similar pain. I just woke up with it one day. I'm icing, splint, and ibuprofen. Some days it feels better than others.

If I hold my left arm out, palm down and twist my forearm inward, that little motion brings me sharp pain. An ortho doc is thinking tendenitis and I'm also seeing a chiropractor (well, he's worked on it 2x) and he definitely helped with the pain.

Mine hurts worse in the wrist but there is a spot in my elbow that he can touch that sends me into orbit. He says mine goes on up into the shoulder and that I'm sleeping on it funny. Actually, I know I am--but I'm asleep so how can I help it? lol

Sound like carpal tunnel (sp?) Mine got so bad I had to have surgery on it. It was excruciating pain. Stay off the comp for a few days and if it goes away that is it.
