Hand stamp wash off?

Let me see if I can help...

Let's say you have a 5-day hopper, but on your fifth day, you are leaving to return home. You have just enough time to ride the Matterhorn one more time in the morning, so you go in, ride, then leave. The hopper is still valid for the rest of that day but you can't use it, which seems like a waste, so you want to give it to somebody since the park is open until midnight and it isn't even noon yet.

If the person you give the hopper to (or worse, sell it to) tries to use it, the CM at the turnstile will see that it is already active for that day, so they will check for a handstamp to make sure that the person holding it is the same person who used it already that day. They should be turned away if they don't have the handstamp.

This almost happened to us. For some reason my Dad failed to get a stamp upon exiting the park one afternoone (he swears it wasnt "offered" to him, I argue that it was his responsibility). Upon returning later that evening, we all went through the turnstiles....except him. He was stopped by the CM and they had to get some higher ups involved. There were 6 of us total in the group so we pleaded our case and told them it was an honest mistake.

Luckily they let him back in but explained the importance of getting the hand stamp.

Won't be making that mistake again. ;)

So if I have a 3 day ticket...I am supposed to have a handstamp to use it the second morning to make sure I am still the same person who used it the day before? No one ever checked in the mornings, of that I am sure!

What if several days lapse between visits...you have 14 days?

You get a new handstamp each day you visit the park. The turnstiles make a different sound for a first time use or a second use on the same day. You should have signed your ticket on the first day (or before) to make sure only you can use the park hopper.

On days of projected high attendance, Annual Passport holders and Disney Cast Members and Employees may be required to obtain handstamps. This is to help prove, along with the Ticket Entries that they are re-entering the park for that day, as opposed to first time entry.

As part of it's crowd control measures, the Disneyland Resort does reserve the right to close off entry to the Theme Parks to first time entry at any time, and only admit those Guests who are re-entering.

But it still doesn't make sense, the turnstiles make different sounds upon re-entry to the parks.

I was told the hand stamp IS the Hopper Part of a DL Pass.

No, the hopper part of the pass is coded into your bar code on the ticket, once they scan it they know if you can hop or not.

We have never had any problems with our hand stamps rubbing off, not once and we swim and hot tub and use sunscreen and hand sanitizers regularly.

But it still doesn't make sense, the turnstiles make different sounds upon re-entry to the parks.

It's just one of those things that just happens during High Attendance days, and doesn't have a discernable explanation. I would guess it would maybe an efficiency thingm (they can just scan and check, as opposed to waiting for the turnstyle to indicate one way or the other, saving precious seconds) or something of that nautre.

Really, there are a lot of things that go on at DLR procedurally-speaking, that don't really make sense, but have been in place so long, that everyone has just come to accept it.

I think the only thing that will take the handstamps off (if I remember correctly) is hand lotion. I never try to scrub them off, just let them wear off naturally even if it takes a while. Kinda like having that Disney Magic once I get back home...

I just have a funny story about this subject! Last year we did the print at home tix. Our first day, we are at the turnstiles and the lady scans the first one and gives me the ticket....scans the second one...it doesn't work, or the 3rd or 4th tickets. WE like idiots printed 4 of the SAME ticket (ok my DH did:)) So we were sent over to customer service area/ticket window. They very nicely looked up our confirmation number and the credit card I used to purchase with, and they got the tickets cleared up for us and printed us the other 3 right there at that window. So we now go over to go back thru the turnstiles and MY first ticket was already scanned in, as it was that first one that worked. I was not given a handstamp, we never made it thru the turnstiles, but since it was scanned, I should have been stamped. Well I of course never thought of it and neither did the cm at the turnstile. So they wouldn't let me in! I had to go back to the ticket counter where we had just came from and explained the situation to them. They then had to get someone to walk me thru the gate and ok it! It was a mess! Our own fault for printing the wrong tickets, but a mess none the less.

I can tell you that our handstamps survived swimming, showering, sunscreen and hand lotion. On our last morning we were riding some of the dark rides and laughing at our 5 hand stamps - all still very visible in the black light effect areas.

I should let everyone know that I was there this weekend and hand sanitizer DOES take off the stamp...we left at noon to go back to the hotel and I was the only one not using the pool but I was also the only one using H.S. and we were trying to get back to PotC for PS at 4 and I got stopped at the gate with my sister and mom (in a wheelchair) and the cast member made a big stink about me not having a hand stamp. I said "how do you know, there isnt even a black light here" she said she should be able to see it without the black light ?!?! what ?!?! so I asked her to please call someone who had a black light because I was there earlier in the day...I even had my camera which had time-stamped pictures from earlier in the day...Finally another CM came over with her little hand-held light and tried to turn it on but the batteries were dead. GRrrr they finally had enough of me and just let me go thru! what a day that was! moral? you can swim and put on lotion and wash your hands and apply sunscreen but DON'T USE HAND SANITIZER!!! LOL :lmao:
