Hand Shaking in MDRs

I don't remember anyone trying to shake hands.

But if they did, and I really didn't want to, I would just decline. People DO do that. And after the first attempt, I would just keep my hands busy. Hold the Navigator in one hand and a purse in the other. Be pulling out a chair and doing something else at the same time. Just don't make your hands available.

I must have always had the most unfriendly staff ever because neither my wife or I remember ever shaking hands in MDR

We always request to have our same servers on our upcoming cruises, so a handshake or hug might happen from time to time as our family is happy to be seated with a familiar face or two.

If i worried about protecting myself from everything that we are exposed to on that boat, we wouldnt have any fun. We take the normal precautions of using the wipes prior to entering the dining rooms, we bring a small can of lysol for the room and we wash our hands regularly.........................and we have never gotten sick on any of our 9 cruises.

Just my 2 cents.

So, I kind of have a bad habit of high fiving people (strangers included) after I've been drinking. One cruise I had a pretty good afternoon and went to dinner still buzzing pretty well. I went to high five our server, and he was persistent to fist bump instead. After I sobered up I thought it might have been because he didn't want to share palms (we've never had the hand shake thing).

Regarding the cleanliness of the servers hands, we had a server tell us once that they have to wash their hands every time they either enter or leave the kitchen (or it might have been both). So I would bet their hands are cleaner/have less germs than mine.

good thing you didn't have our server on the Fantasy in Sept. She was a hugger.
It was weird the first time, but we had a great time and would recommend Usyep and Elodie as some of Favorite servers.

It has happened with us mostly on the Fantasy. When other tablemates have introduced themselves, many of them have instinctively offered their handshake. We eventually started requesting a private table so no longer have that situation. On the final evening, long before dinner is over, we have had the head server and dining manager, and sometimes the servers, initiate a handshake.
We've never had a handshake offered, we always get hugs on the last night.
