Does anyone know where I can find wrist harness/straps. I have 4 year olds and would like to have them for my WDW trip in Nov.

Thanks.
Dawn

Please don't use the wrist straps!!! Buy the harness type ones. They are avalible at babies are us for one. I watched a child fall and dislocate his elbow on one of the wrist type ones, and my PEd. says she has also treated children that this happened to. The harness type ones are much, much safer!!! Sorry for the public service announcement, but it was traumatic for me to watch and appeared t obe very painful for the child. He had run to the end of the lead and then fell. It pulled his arm sort of behind his back and it just popped out!!

I second this! We weren't even using a wrist harness - I was just holding my 1 year old's hand while he was walking in a field. He fell down and my initial reaction was to pull back up. He ended up at Urgent Care with what they called "Nursemaid's elbow" - basically a dislocated elbow. It was easily corrected, but it cause him quite a bit of pain. I felt so bad!! I could definitely see this happening with the wrist harnesses. ToysRUs has some really cute Disney backpack harnesses. The disney store carries the same ones, but they are much cheaper at Toysrus.com. HTH!

Target carries the ones that look like stuffed animal backpacks -- I'm probably going to get a monkey one for my rambunctious 3-year-old.

I had my 2 wear belt bags (waist bags). They could get in and out of them for snacks and autograph books. They loved having a place to put their sunglasses and handy wipes. I then attached a regular leash to the back of their belts. They used those bags for years!!!!

Issues of injury aside, wrist tethers make it way too easy for devious little tykes to tether a parent to the fixtures and take off while Mom momentarily looks away, secure in the knowledge that jr. is tethered to her wrist. Kids tend to think that this trick is absolutely hilarious.

A harness that tethers in the back can't be easily removed by the child.

I have the Puppy Dog one from Target and Love it. It helped so much when I was traveling alone w/ 2 kids. We are taking it to Disney this time so that our oldest &/or youngest can walk when they want, but we keep them close. Not to mention the back has a spot you can put something like an autograph book in.

We have the Puppy one too, got it from Walmart though.
We used it last year on a trip to Quebec when my son was 1.5 yrs old. He likes to walk around "all by myself" style, so it worked great in letting him walk without having to hold my hand, but I still knew where he was and he couldn't run off. Plus he thought it was neat that he got to give the puppy a piggy back ride :)

I got the monkey one at Walmart a couple of weeks ago ($12 I think). I felt weird about it at first, but my just-turned-2 son absolutely loves it. We've used it hiking and at the library. He prefers it to the stroller, and I feel much safer than when I just hold his hand! Unlike my daughter, he's a runner!

Walmart used to carry good chest harness ones that were straps (Not backpacks). Easy on and Easy off (for parents). Only about $6. I think it had Elmo on it. Backpacks might get hot in the Florida heat.

When we used it I was amazed how many women came up to me congratulating me on using them. They said too many people fear using them but keeping kids safe makes it a great item to have. I agree.

I hate to differ from everyone's opinion, really I do. But I used the wrist strap/harness on all 4 of my kids. None of them were real runners. They just didn't like to hold hands or sit in a stroller. I know I could have made them but sometimes it was easier just to avoid the meltdown. Bad parent, I know.

I think it really depends on the child. If you have a runner, definitely use a back harness. But if you have a child show isn't one to run off at all, then we've had great success with a wrist strap.

My DD refused to wear the wrist harness and would remove it, complain that it bothered her wrist ,etc. What I did that worked was tell her that I was so afraid that mommy would get lost, would she please always hold my hand or wear it so that mommy wouldn't get lost. It made her feel like she was helping me and keeping me safe. so funny but it worked. I like the idea of attaching it to a fanny pack that they can keep their sunglasses, etc. in and attaching it in the back. I wouldn't want that thing around my wrist either and the backpacks are cute but I wonder if they would be hot.

I am not even a parent but seen a few using the harnesses that did up in the back, and nearly all had some type of stuffed animal design during my recent vacation. I seen too many little ones try to bolt off on parent(s) and a chase ensues which isn't fun in the heat & crowds at Disney.
