I was just reading another post about this. I'd love to have something personalized for my kids. Where can you get this done in the parks? Do you choose the character? How much does it cost? How do you get these back to your hotel without ruining them throughout the day?

Thanks!
Angie

Yes, i would like to know also, this would be so cute with my DH and myself it would make a nice memory of our WDW vacation.

at MGM, at one of the stores, where there is an artist that does drawings of characters. The cost is roughly $35 per character. I don't know if they will personalize or not. But it couldn't hurt to ask.

The store is located on the same street as Tower of terror.

At each of the parks and downtown disney they have the artist corners.

Magic kingdom they are located on the right side of main street and in the castle gift shop.

MGM they are located along the right side of "hollywood blvd" heading toward ToT.

Epcot they are located on the right side of the sphere a little behind it.

And I'm not sure about Animal Kingdom.

The cost of each sketch is dependant on how many characters are in the sketch and if you want it framed.

You may have your sketch personalized, but you may not use trademarked phrases from other entities.

For example, in january I purchased a sketch with mickey as a star wars jedi and minnie as leia. I was not allowed to have "may the force be with you", but I could have "to: name from mickey and minnie".

The characters are preapproved from Disney higher ups and in the case of star wars - george lucas. In 2006 they only had jedi mickey (2 poses), this year they only had jedi mickey (2 poses) and jedi mickey with minnie leia.

Most if not all of the Disney characters can be found or sketched for you, but you will have to look through the binder to find the ones you want.

The sketch artists will not include sketches of you or your family. There are character artists that you can find sometimes that will do those.

:thumbsup2 Well said, Hansel!

I remember a few years ago, I wanted Stitch when he first came out and they couldn't do him. I'm guessing they have him now. Like Hansel said, there is a binder and you flip through the pictures and select one. The only personalizing you can do is choosing the pencil color (I think they will use black plus one color total), and the writing (Which, like Hansel said, also has some restrictions.) For example, I have a Piglet one we did pink/some black, and a Mickey one with red/some black. I don't think the $35 includes the framing done. There's several types of frames you can choose from. It's a really cute souvenir though! :goodvibes

I don't know where in the parks, but I know that there is someone who draws them at the Polynesian Resort. They are always there around dinner time. We usually book a meal at Ohana's. Last year our kids had their pictures drawn after dinner. It was a perfect distraction, while we waited to watch the Magic Kingdom Fireworks over the castle. They pipe the music into the resort lobby and you can watch from the big window. And we didn't have to fight the crowds when it was over. I know that it is better in person, but this is a nice alternative, especially when we had a 4 month old too:goodvibes .

Just wanted to mention another, alternative hand-drawn sketch opportunity that we actually prefer to the 'artist drawn' sketches.

If you go on the Disney Animation tour (or, alternatively, you can enter via the exit and skip the film and concept art areas)... you can take a free animation class where they teach you how to draw a Disney character. The CM instructing the class takes you through the process, step by step, making it very simple for even the 'artistically challenged' to draw their own pencil sketch. You then sign, date and get to keep your drawing to take home.

My DS did a fabulous sketch this year of his favorite character, Stitch. In the shop at the exit, they had some very nice frames that were the correct size for the sketches (c. $30), so I purchased one and framed DS's drawing on the spot. It's the most special Disney souvie I have ever brought home from WDW... and means so much more to me than a stock drawing done by someone that I do not even know.

I second this! Last year, we "discovered" the animation class & DD8 LOVED it!! She & DH did it 4x during the day. They drew Mickey twice, Donald and Minnie once each. I took one of the Mickeys & the other two characters and had them framed for her for Christmas. We always give the children some kind of keepsake for Christmas, so this was perfect. They are all framed in one large frame, with a cutout below the middle sketch with her name, "Disney-MGM Studios", and the date. She almost cried when she saw it!

Not the same thing, but this past trip at AK there were caricature artists outside one of the shops and they will draw your face on a Disney character.

My sister had them do my niece as Tinkerbell and it is SO cute! They put her face on Tinkerbell's body and had her flying over the castle.

I also have a Mickey I had done by one of the sketch artists that I got at MGM at the Art of Disney store.
It is a pie eyed Mickey and I watched him draw the whole thing. I love it!

I have a few of these and make it a point to buy at least one every trip. As of Dec 06, they were $35 for one character, $65 for two, $95 for three per sheet. I've included a picture of mine (the Maleficent counted as two characters since she had Diablo on her shoulder). They have them either already drawn (which came with mats (a couple of years ago) but no frame)or they have a book you can pick designs from and an artist will sketch for you (didn't come with mats or frames as of Dec 06).

I'm not really sure why I think I have to have these, but I always do. If I have them drawn on the spot (most times they get behind and I have them shipped back to the resort), I try to spend some time talking to the artist. Coming from an art background, I am usually entralled with what they have to say and most of them are more than willing to share their Disney related backgrounds to you!

I've never asked about personalization, but I have noticed the ones they have on the wall (that cost a fortune) and some of those seem to have personalizations on them.
